 Windshield repair vs. windshield replacement.
Can my windshield be repaired or does it have to be replaced?

Don’t let someone fool you into a full windshield replacement if you don’t need it.

Most rock chips under the size of a $.25 cent piece can be successfully repaired.

The results vary depending on the condition of the break.

Some of the factors that affect a repair :

• Length of time since the break occurred - new breaks repair much better.
• A break that has been wet - moisture in the glass affects the repair with microscopic dirt particles entering the crack and clinging to the moisture. The result is often a fine line that can be seen when the repair is completed. This does not affect the quality of the repair except visually.
• TIP: IF YOU GET A SMALL CRACK, PUT A PIECE OF TAPE OVER THE IMPACT AREA. HIGH QUALITY BOX TAPE WHICH WILL SEAL THE AREA IS BEST, DO NOT USE MASKING TAPE OR ANY OTHER TAPE WITHOUT A VERY TIGHT SEAL TO KEEP MOISTURE OUT.
• If the break is directly in your vision and bothers you, it may still bother you after the repair. A successful repair is designed to improve the look and keep the damage from spreading.
• Repair is often a very economical alternative to replacement.
• If aesthetics are important, go ahead and replace the windshield.
