Map of lower Teesdale showing Eggleston Hall & Egglesburn Chapel. Egglesburn is part of Eggleston, a village between Barnard Castle and Middleton in Teesdale. Teesdale is now dominated by farming, principally sheep farming, but its leadmining heritage is easy to discover. Egglesburn Chapel was built during the area's leadmining and smelting heyday. We've highlighted Eggleston Hall because it is a signposted attraction in the area. If you follow signs for the "Hall" you are just a short distance from the chapel. From Eggleston Hall Gardens gate follow the B6282 towards Middleton-in-Teesdale. The chapel is located just on a little side road on the right, a couple of miles along the road (just before a public phone booth). Don't be distracted by references to Egglestone Abbey on your own map. The abbey is a ruin on the other side of Barnard Castle about seven miles away. Barnard Castle should be easy to find on your map. It is on the A66 transpenine route between Scotch Corner on the east and Penrith on the west of the country.
We are off the B6282 between Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale Take first right about a mile beyond Eggleston Hall
