The 1990s were yet another pioneering year for women in the armed forces.  By 1990 women made up 11 percent of armed forces and 13 percent of reserve forces. In January of 1991, yet another milestone was made by women, there were 33,000 women deployed to operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During those two missions a combined 13 women were killed and 2 were taken as prisoners of war.

Women were often found in the thick of things. Especially when they manned jobs such as, helicopter pilots, missle launchers , or airplane pilots.

By the time it was 1990 President Bush had signed the Nation Defense Authorization Act for fiscal years 1992 and 1993. This act repealed the 43-year-old-legal barriers on women flying in the air force, Navy, and Marines. By the end of the '90s women comprised of 14 percent of active troops.

Military service women have been very crucial in protecting the nations institutions and resorces. They were also crucial in supervision, development, and research.

Although women have come very far from the early 1900s, they still have a long way to come. Women are still excluded from 9 percent of army roles, 1 percent in the air force. They are still today excluded from submarine and Navy SEAL teams.
