This is a project I did for school that I wound up publishing. It's a monitor for newborn babies that takes advantage of the Babinski reflex (aka Plantar reflex) that all newborns have. If the side of a baby's foot is tickled, the baby will reflexively withdraw the foot. I came up with a wireless Bluetooth monitor that vibrated the baby's foot to produce a tickle and then detected movement with an accelerometer. Since the reaction is reflexive, it works even if the baby is sleeping.
