How the grant works:
Students can accumulate up to 500 positive behavior points per week. Those points are traded in at the end of each week for admission to the Gold Club (450-500 points), Silver Club (400-449 points), or Bronze Club (350-399 points). Students working towards improvement (less than 349 points) take part in a Character Education skills unit to teach the behaviors and social skills necessary to succeed both in school and in life.
Gold Club members now enjoy a fanastic game room that includes three digital 52" televisions with XBOX 360 game systems hooked uo to them and a great collection of "E" video games. Six other televisions are equiped with either the original x-box or game cube systems. One hour of play is traded in for 450-500 points earned during that week~an incentive all students work hard to achieve! As a bonus students also earn a drink and special snack. (thanks to Mr. Roberts and Mrs. Dancer for running this club)
Silver Club members who earn between 400-449 points during the week enjoy arts and crafts or scooter riding for their hard work. A dozen scooters with helmets and elbow & knee pads are ready for an hour of fun and exercise outside of the classroom atmosphere. Craft projects have included sun catchers, door hangers, bird houses, and special event projects. As a bonus students also earn a special snack. (thanks to Miss. Brennan for running this club)
Bronze club members that earn between 350-399 points in a week get to enjoy either outside sports activities or a newly released "G" movie. There is plenty room for improvement here and these students are working towards higher rewards. To make this club a student still had a sucessful week by avoiding secure interventions aor any referrals. No bonus is offered for this group. (Thanks to Mr. Scott for running this club)
Character Education~students scoring under 349 points in a week or have a school or bus referral are taught character education lessons during the hour club time. Students discuss why they did not achieve club member status and what they can do to make a club next week. This helps students by:
Teaching students how to take responsibility for their actions and to treat others with respect. Therapists are also included in the discussion for their support and input. After taking responsibilty for their actions a character education topic is discussed that is aligned with the Duval County Character Education Traits followed by an education video on the topic. Monies from this grant has created a Character Education theater with a 104" MOVIE PROJECTOR SCREEN being shown by a DVD projector player. Teachers discuss expectations and teach social skills with the help of fantastic educational videos bought with these grant funds that include:
