A college education has never been more important. In California, by the year 2020, an estimated 75 percent of jobs will require college training in either a community college or university. Already, the fastest growing jobs in San Diego require a college degree. A college education is within any student's reach if he or she takes the 'A-G' course sequence in middle and high school to prepare. The 'A-G' courses are rigorous courses that prepare students with the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to become lifelong learners in a changing economy. The courses teach critical thinking, problem solving, communication skills, cultural sensitivity and other skills needed in the 21st century. In some school districts--like San Diego Unified, Carlsbad, and San Marcos--the 'A-G' course sequence is what all students will soon be expected to complete. Learn what you can do as a student or as a parent to prepare for college. |
