- Teaching Math: A video library, K-4
for links to the videos for the AV reflection assignments. There are 53
different clips here, all about 15-20 minutes in length, where you can
see reform based mathematics teaching in action in classrooms. In
addition to viewing lessons like "Choose a Method" and "Shapes from
Squares" for our AV reflections, consider looking at some of these
lessons as you prepare work samples and lessons in your placements.

different clips here where you can see reform based mathematics
teaching in action in classrooms. "Fraction tracks" is one of my
favorites. Consider looking at some of these lessons as you prepare
work samples and lessons in your placements.

Fall
Oregon's Fall Professional Improvement Day
A bulletin listing all the options for that day will be mailed in September to each school district and each principal’s office (public and private) in the state, as well as to all Educational Organizations listed in the Oregon School Directory.
The Northwest Mathematics Conference hosted by the Oregon Council for Teacher's of Mathematics (OCTM)--Visit this site for more information about this annual conference.
Annual Conference for Science Teachers hosted by the Oregon Science Teacher's Association (OSTA)--Visit their site for more information and online registration about this annual conference.
Northwest Conference on Teaching for Social Justice--This is the first annual conference sponsored by the Rethinking Schools folks in the Portland area. The conference is October 4 in Seattle.
Project Learning Tree Workshop--Learn how to implement an outstanding interdisciplinary outdoor education curriculum. Click on "Workshop Calendar" for specific information and online registration. The Oregon Forest Resources Institute pays for all fees and instruction.
OMSI teacher workshops--The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry hosts excellent professional development programs for educators. They offer excellent programs during the Fall Professional Improvement Day and also throughout the year. There is a fee for their programs.
Oregon Council for Social Studies--Visit their site for more information about their conference, scheduled on the statewide in service day.
Oregon Zoo--always a popular set of free workshops offered on the in-service day.
North American Association for Environmental Education--Hosted in Portland in the Fall of 2009 with a special teacher rate for Saturday's session only. Recommended by Yvonne. Do not miss the green tree frog photo on the website.
Spring
The OTEN Teacher Education Showcase Conference--a free conference in the Portland area featuring technology integration projects across the grade levels and across the curriculum completed by student teachers and first year teachers in their classrooms this spring.
Intel Northwest Science Expo--this expo brings together over 600 middle and high school students from Oregon and Washington to Portland State University for a giant science fair. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, clean-up, safety checks, and numerous other jobs. Pizza provided for volunteers--register online.
