SEE ATTACHMENTS BELOW FOR THE FULL PRESENTATIONS. Session 1: How ePortfolios Support Learning and Development for
Students and Faculty Tue., June 9th, 10:30-11:30am Platform: Epsilen Today's students and faculty often transition between multiple institutions of education, and engage in a variety of learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom. How can the ePortfolio best support their learning and development as lifelong learners? The ePortfolio is a powerful tool that can motivate and engage the user to take ownership of the learning process, for individuals at all stages of life and learning. In this session, Marianne Dombroski and Nancy Wozniak will examine the ePortfolio as process rather than as a completed product. We will look at ePortfolios that allow for and encourage feedback from and interaction among a community of users who are actively engaged in learning and development. Examples of faculty, student, course and program portfolios from multiple institutions of higher education will be showcased and discussed. Participants will also learn how to create their own free ePortfolios in Epsilen, a web platform that supports lifelong ePortfolios for faculty, students, and professionals. Marianne Dombroski Marianne Dombroski works with the Education Group at the The New York Times and is part of the “Epsilen team”. Epsilen is a new eLearning and ePortfolio technology platform partially underwritten by The New York Times. Marianne has over 12 years’ experience specializing in services and programs for the higher education marketplace, including but not limited to: publishing, editorial, technology services, and media/curriculum based programs. Nancy Wozniak Nancy Wozniak became Stony Brook University's first Learning Architect in The Faculty Center in Fall 2008. There, she consults with faculty on the planning and design of courses and effective course management methods. Nancy has worked as an instructional designer, educational technologist and online learning coordinator for 11+ years, and has been dubbed the Wizard of Woz at her previous academic positions.Session 2: Learning Achievement Tools Tue, June 9th 10:45-11:45 Presenter: Dara Wexler, Ph.D. Session 3: The Promise of E-portfolios in Learning and Assessment: A
Faculty Member's Perspective Tue, June 9th 2-3pm (Section 1 only) Platform: TaskStream Emerging technologies and Web 2.0 interactive abilities give
faculty members across the disciplines the opportunity to imbed engaging
activities into live and online classes. Hosting those alternative forms of
assignments is possible in eportfolio toolsets. This session will explore the
possibilities from a faculty member's perspective.
