You've driven by this but you need to stop and visit the beautiful park, stroll across I-5, view sculptures, see several beautiful gardens, enjoy an international picnic (right on the borderline) with fun entertainment, and watch our Border Festival Queen be crowned. A fun-filled Sunday to start off the 100th anniversary party for District 2! Joining in a year of celebration are District 6 (the Southwestern US) and District 7 (British Columbia). Both of these districts were once part of District 2. The party takes place at the Peace Arch Park (Visitor Guide) in Blaine with the throwing horseshoes around 9:30-10:00 AM. More games to play throughout the day including tug-of-war. The president of District 2 and District 7 set our year off with some greetings, too! There is a potluck lunch at 12 noon. Each person brings their own complete table service. Wergeland Lodge 2-021 of Bellingham is furnishing the coffee, tea and some juice and if you would like some other refreshment, please bring it with you. Period hats which were quite large, clothes, or even swimsuits from around 1910 are encouraged. The internet has many ideas if you want to create your own. The Queen for the Border Festival will be selected from Lodge Queens participating in the event. Contact Elaine Grasdock for more information emkvam@juno.com. There is also a cash prize raffle drawing to help support the Border Festival. Kite flying in the onshore breeze can try your skill with soaring on the wind, so bring a kite for the occasion. Prior to the event is a great time to get the kids together to make some kites. A Viking ship may make an appearance, too. Plans are in the works for a few historic cars from the Model A (1903) and Model T (1908) by Ford which follows some of our own history. If you have household items from around 1910, please bring them up for display so we can intermingle them with our District 2 historical photos and memorabilia. However, the Border Festival Board can not be responsible for lost artifacts or other items. See you on July 12 around 9:30 AM or when you get there for lunch at Noon for a fun filled day of activities and celebration! And you're welcome to bring a lawn chair for better comfort during the program. Bring your GPS and see if you can find the boundary.
