2011 The Sons of Norway Foundation

   The Sons of Norway Foundation awards scholarships and grants to promote heritage and culture of Norway, and provide assistance to our members, lodges and their communities.

   The following scholarships are offered by the Sons of Norway Foundation. Qualifying information and forms are available here:

   King Olav V Norwegian-American Heritage Fund
HRM, King Olav V of Norway allows the Sons of Norway Foundation to use his name in establishing a fund to promote cultural exchange between Norway and North America. The fund welcomes applications from Americans, 18 years or older. Must be postmarked by March 1st.

   Astrid G. Cates/Myrtle Beinhauer Fund
We invite applicants enrolling in post-secondary training or education including trade school, vocational school or college and must be current Sons of Norway members, children or grandchildren of current Sons of Norway members. Must be postmarked by March 1st.

   Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund
The fund encourages female American citizens between 17 and 35 to apply for financial assistance for programs in chemistry or physics, or in chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering. 
Must be postmarked by April 1st.

   Scholarship to Oslo International Summer School
The Sons of Norway Foundation offers one scholarship each year for a student to attend the Oslo International Summer School. Visit The University of Oslo to learn more on the program. Must be postmarked by March 1st.

   Helen Tronvold Norwegian Folk High School Scholarship
The Sons of Norway Foundation Helen Tronvold Norwegian Folk High School Scholarship, established in 2005, supports the Sons of Norway Foundation’s goal of providing cross-cultural experiences for youth. Deadline is March 1st.

   Lund Fund Scholarship
The Sons of Norway International Board of Directors established the Lund Fund of the Sons of Norway Foundation in 2010 as a tribute to former Chief Executive Officer, John Lund and Alan Lund, former Legal Counsel of Sons of Norway, for their combined forty years of outstanding service and dedication. This scholarships fund provides scholarships for study abroad experiences through accredited, post high school, educational institutions. Deadline is June 1st, 2011.

 

The Sofie/Olson Scholarships

   The Sofie/Olson Scholarship is available for children who attend our District 2 Youth camps.  One scholarship is awarded to an attendee at each of our camps: Nidaros, Normanna, and Trollhaugen.  To be eligible, the camper must be children, grandchildren, nieces or nephew of a current District 2 member of Sons of Norway.

   The camper must have applied and been accepted to the camp of their choice.  A scholarship application with guidelines will be mailed to each camper.  The deadline for scholarship application is April 15, 2009.


2011 Carl M. Saltveit Scholarship
 
   The Carl M. Saltveit Scholarship awards $2,800 to an applicant to attend the International Summer School (ISS) at the University of Oslo next summer.  Additional information about the scholarship and an application form are enclosed.  The completed application must be returned to me [Chris Hicks  (425) 672-0194  hicks1015@msn.com] and postmarked no later than March 1, 2011. So time is approaching fast.

Edmonds Lodge Scholarship Application
Due April 1, 2012

     Graduating high school seniors who are Unge Venner members of Edmonds Lodge or who are relatives (children or grandchildren) of Sons of Norway Edmonds Lodge #2-130 members in good standing may apply.

The Draxten Memorial Scholarship

   The Draxten Memorial Scholarship is awarded to many of our children attending the District 2 youth camps. To be eligible, campers must have applied and been accepted to the camp of their choice AND they must have been awarded a camp scholarship from their local lodge.

   The Draxten Memorial Fund will grant an amount up to, but not exceeding, the amount given by the local lodge.  If your lodge does not have a large scholarship fund, please do not let that stop you from awarding what you can.  Last year, lodge scholarships ranged from $50 - $100.  The lodge awarding the initial scholarship must notify me of the recipient’s name and the amount given by April 30th, which means that lodges must select scholarships no later than April, Please let me [Chris Hicks  (425) 672-0194  hicks1015@msn.com] know if you have not awarded them yet and when you will do so.*
