MIDSOMMARFEST 2012 SUNDAY - JUNE 24th 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. St. Edward State Park, Kenmore, WA - MAP
Edmonds Sons of Norway members enjoy a potluck lunch (noon) and membership meeting (11:30am) at the Skandia Folkdance Society Midsommarfest on June 24th 2012 from 11 am to 6 pm. Midsommarfest, as presented by Skandia Folkdance Society, is a traditional Swedish celebration of the summer solstice, recreated in as authentic a manner as possible, complete with the 2:30 p.m. raising of a garlanded Midsommar pole, a serpentine dance around the pole, and hundreds of costumed musicians and dancers - traditions practiced in Sweden for centuries. Over the years since the 1959 inception of Skandia Midsommarfest, the festival has expand to include contributions from all the Nordic and Baltic countries so that the rich cultural diversity of all those lands can be experienced by Skandia Midsommarfest attendees. Midsommarfest showcases a wealth of wonderful music and dancing by the Northwest's premier Nordic folk musicians and dancers (and this area boasts some of the best in the Western Hemisphere). Allspel time is 3:20 pm, immediately following the ceremonies at the pole.

The trouble with Harry is he's everywhere! From the 3/17/2011 Edmonds Beacon NewspaperAging Gracefully - Lutefisk and Teamwork Published on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 by Marilyn Dauer This is Harry pouring coffee at our previous pancake breakfast
And then along with Glen Werner he's with Marv Harshman (right side of Marv) From Hangin' with ‘Harsh' in the 12/18/2010 Everett Herald
From the 12/09/2010 Edmonds Beacon Newspaper "Peggy Kennedy, Director of the Food Bank accepts a check from Bob Stevenson, Edmonds Lodge Sons of Norway President. Also pictured are (l-r) Glenn Werner, Harold Malnes and Al Vadset, who are all Sons of Norway members as well as food bank volunteers. In the spirit of the season, Edmonds Lodge Sons of Norway donated the final installment of a $1,000 pledge to the Carol Rowe Memorial Food Bank in Edmonds. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Sons of Norway District 2, consisting of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska, many lodges from the region participated in “100” themed activities. The Edmonds Lodge decided to contribute money in $100 increments to the food bank. The money was collected from members and guests at the Sons of Norway monthly meetings and during the Lodge sponsored Saturday Pancake Breakfasts throughout this past year.
The Edmonds Sons of Norway has been contributing to the food bank for over 10 years, but this is the first time they have given at this level thanks to the addition of a collection box at the Pancake Breakfasts and generous contributions from members." |
