There is no doubt that when writing, it is very difficult to edit and proofread your own paper. Unless you have excellent skills, and have extra time on your hands, it’s very difficult to do in a timely fashion. Just handing it to another person is not a good idea. Are they good at proofreading? Editing?

If not, you could be getting some bad advice and be wasting your time and theirs. But if there is a friend, neighbor, or family member who is good at this skill (which is different from being able to write in general), then they should be one of your two resources for every paper. They being one, and me the other!
