This Year We are Looking for at Least Four Parents per Room. One (or more) per Quarter
Edison is looking for parent volunteers to become room parents. As a room parent, you will be able to meet your child’s classmates, experience your child’s interactions, and most of all, see the pride in your child’s face when you are there to share special times with their class. All parents and guardians are encouraged to volunteer. To be a room parent contact Kathleen Ziemer at kathleen@ziemer.net. As a homeroom parent you will be the primary communicator between the teacher, other classroom parents and the PTO. Responsibilities include receiving and distributing information as needed by the teacher and PTO; organizing volunteers to attend and provide for classroom events and lunchroom supervision; and serving as a social network coordinator for the class. Homeroom parents also help organize the following school-wide events:
Be A Part of Your Child’s Day. Volunteer For Lunch/Recess Duty
Every month a different class is responsible for lunch duty. Our goal is to have three volunteers on morning recess duty from 9:40 a.m. to 10:05 a.m. and lunch duty from 11:20 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Each class is responsible for their assigned month as follows:

CPS requires all volunteers to fill out a Volunteer Packet. If you've filled out the form last year, you do not need to fill one out again. If you've filled out the form at the old location, you will probably need to fill one again since many files were lost in the move. Check the Edison office and see if you are in its file. The form requires a background check. In addition, a TB test is required for volunteers who spend more than 5 hours a week in the school. Both the TB test and background check need to be updated every three years. If updated TB test and background check are on file at another CPS school, you do not need to fill those pages out again for Edison. Just note it on the forms you hand in. Please obtain a copy from the Edison office or download it (document found below), fill it out, and turn it into the Edison office as soon as feasibly possible.
