Our Programs: An Overview

In Summer 2010, we will again offer study abroad in Australia and Fiji. What follows are brief descriptions of these programs, the cost of these programs, and valuable information on how to get you enrolled in the program.


Australia: May 10 – June 4, 2010; 6 credit hours (click for more)

This is a 3.5-week field study of the Great Barrier Reef, Australian rainforests, the Outback, and indigenous Aboriginal cultures. Learn about ancient landscapes and cultures that highlight the complexity of issues such as tropical ecology, sustainable management, protecting endangered species, and ecosystem management. Queensland enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round and temperatures will usually range in the 80’s during the days. Program and tuition is $4700.

 

Fiji: June 6 - 13, 2010; 3 credit hours (click for more)

This program focuses on indigenous environmental knowledge and practices on Fiji’s main and off-shore islands. The Fiji program is designed as an optional extension to the Australia program (as a minimal cost stopover in Fiji can be easily included on the return leg of the Australia flight). Students will overnight at a local indigenous village and will study coral reef conservation and ecotourism while staying on one of the offshore islands. Fiji is tropical and warm all year round. Program and tuition is $1950.

 

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2010. Applications will be made available after November 5, 2009/


The fees (above) include tuition, all accommodations, in-country transportation, some meals (virtually all meals in Fiji), all excursions/activities, and international accident/health insurance coverage. Additional costs include some meals (~$250), airfare (~$1,400 round-trip from Los Angeles, with an optional group airfare available – visit www.studentuniverse.com/study/auip for information), and readings packet (~$50)Please note that out-of-state students pay the same as in-state students and that scholarships/financial aid apply as if you were on campus taking summer semester classes.
