Announcement 1/27/09: DOWNLOAD APPLICATION FROM THIS PAGE (SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE)

The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at East Carolina University, in cooperation with American Universities International Programs (AUIP), invites you to apply for our unique study abroad opportunities in the South Pacific. This year we are headed to Australia and Fiji. While there, we explore the dynamic cultures and natural environments of the region, traveling extensively as a group with Clemson University professors and local field experts.

  • Credit is available for up to 9 semester hours in RCLS (Sustaining Human Societies and Natural Environments).

  • The programs are suitable for students of all backgrounds and majors.

  • There are no prerequisites for the Study Abroad Australia and Fiji Programs.

  • Students need a 2.0 GPA, and also need to have a record clear of major disciplinary issues.

This site is a temporary site to provide students and parents information for this study abroad experience. We are updating the site with pictures, videos and other information to help you understand how valuable and rewarding this study abroad experience  is.  A copy of our program brochure can be downloaded in the attachments section at the bottom of this page.

Drs. Clifton Watts and Paige Schneider are leading the study abroad program. The program is supported by East Carolina University Study Abroad Programs, and has a Facebook site to help manage announcements and market the program.  Study abroad programs are available to in-state and out-of-state students and rates reflect approximate costs for all students. Detailed information about the programs (descriptions, cost and application), can be found here.

NEW!!! Credit from our study abroad program may be applied to a Certificate in Global Learning, a Certificate in Global Learning with Distinction, or a Minor in International Studies as part of that degree's specialized concentration. Studies in Australia and Fiji focus on sustainable tourism and natural resource management issues. These two areas of focus can be classified under concentrations focusing on international environmental problems and population/demographic issues as described in the guidelines for the Minor in International Studies.
