10/21 Meeting Overview:
  • We confirmed participation in the first annual Ada Arts District Ice Cream Social this Saturday 10/24 from 10-4 on the mall. If you get a chance come out and support us and World Polio Day.
  • We agreed to adopt an awareness tree as a club at CIRCAW's 2nd annual event this coming Monday 10/26 @ 1:30 on the lawn in front of Horace Mann
  • We decided that donation boxes/cans can be picked up in Dr. Daniel's office on Wednesday 10/28 or Thursday 10/29
  • Costumes for a Cure is this coming Thursday and Friday 10/29 & 10/30. Please plan to participate in our effort to raise funds to end polio. Costumes are suggested but not mandatory.
  • The Ada Safehouse will be held Saturday 10/31 from 6p-8p. Members are encouraged to assist Ada Rotary clubs with handing out candy.
  • We chose the design for this year's t-shirt. Each shirt will cost $15.00, and we would need you to pay before we can place the order. I would like to place the order by Monday 11/2... an image of the design can be found here.
  • We chose this year's International Project. We plan to raise money for pesticide treated nets to help fight malaria in Nigeria & India.
  • We agreed to set an appointment to have our group yearbook picture taken at our next meeting 11/4 @ 4:30.
  • Sana Iqbal informed us that ECU's International Connection club will be donation $100.00 to our Polio Plus efforts.
 
10/7 Meeting Overview:
  • Dr. Daniel provided us with the details for this Saturday's service projects. Those who wish to help clean up Glenwood Park should meet at the park by 9:00. Those who wish to help with the highway trash pick-up should meet at the old PEC building (the lighthorse building) at 10:00. Dr. Daniel also requested that everyone let him know how they intend to participate.
  • We discussed setting up a table at ECU's Arts and Ice cream Social on October 24 from 10-4. This is also World Polio Day, so we would want to help draw attention to the Polio Plus campaign. It was suggested that members could sign up for hour shifts to man the table.
  • Costumes for a Cure which will be held on October 29 & 30 was discussed, and Dr. Stan Nnochirionye offered to get the soccer clubs involved.
  • We heard two suggestions for this year's international project and decided to pick a project at our next meeting, two weeks from yesterday.
    • It was suggested that we find a way to support the Maisha Orphanage in Kesumu, Kenya. More information about specific projects in this area will be provided at next meeting.
    • Dr. Stan Nnochirionye told us about several projects from a Rotary group in Nigeria, his home country, to help combat polio and malaria. In particular, helping to purchase insecticide-treated mosquito nets to help prevent malaria was suggested.

9/23 Meeting Overview:

The District Governor of Rotary spoke to us in his first official visit to a Rotaract club. We were pleased to have he and his wife in attendance.

9/9 Meeting Overview:

The following officers were elected:
  • President - Jomain McKenzie
  • Vice President - Derek Reed
  • Co-Secretary - Abbie Paty
  • Co-Secretary - Dianna Kriegh
  • Treasurer - Katie Wilson
We also set the next meeting for 9/23 and discussed Rotary's Polio Plus Campaign.

9/2 Meeting Overview:

  • A Meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, September 9 @ 4:30 in room 158 FFAC
  • We decided to elect officers at the meeting next week
  • We discussed possible projects for Rotary International's October 10 initiatives including possibly doing trash-pickup with Ada's Rotary clubs that day
  • We discussed possible projects for the coming year including possibly participating in this year's Water Fair with an informational booth and doing Costumes for a Cure again.

Mentor a child at Glenwood Elementary School. We had some difficulties with this program, but we are still hoping to get it going in the Fall Semester. Contact me for further information: ecurotaractsecretary@gmail.com
