The Education City for Haiti campaign was a collaborative effort among the various student body organizations and student governments within Education City. We aimed to raise 20,000 QR/- (US $5500) for the Haiti Relief effort after the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12th, 2010. The supporters for the EC for Haiti campaign included Development Solutions Organization, Education City Programming Board (ECPB), Education City Charity Trust (ECCT), Student Body Government in Texas A&M University, Student Government Association in Virginia Commonwealth University and Student Volunteer Group in Weill Cornell. The campaign kicked off on Sunday, January 31st when ECPB organized the EC for Haiti Kickoff event which had kite flying, music, food, twister and the ever popular egg toss. For five days, from Sunday to Thursday, we sent teams of students from various organizations to the different campuses in Education City. These included Carnegie Mellon University campus, Texas A&M campus, Liberal Arts Society campus, Virginia Commonwealth University campus and Weill Cornell University campus. We ended the campaign on Thursday, February 4th, in Carnegie Mellon University where we had food, a donation booth, announcement of the winner of the IPod Touch raffle, and a few words from DSO president Kaleem and Dr. Maryum Shafaee, who had recently returned from Haiti. We also announced our final fund count which is displayed below. All funds will go through Qatar Red Crescent. TOTAL FUNDS RAISED: QR 22,418/- (unofficial count) For this remarkable achievement, we would like to thank our various collaborators such as DSO for it's involvement will all aspects of the campaign, ECPB for it's generous time and effort with the kickoff event and the IPod raffle, ECCT for it's support and help with the donation stalls, the student bodies and governments in all campuses for volunteering, Qatar Red Crescent for the donation boxes, Bloomsbury for their support, A to Z Student Radio and Dominoes Pizza for their donations and finally: You. Without the full support from Education City, this target would have been impossible. This campaign marks one of the few opportunities Education City could unite for one common cause and together we achieved our goal. DSO hopes that it can work with other Education City organizations and student bodies on future projects. | ![]() Collaborators:
