Back to Basics is an international colloquium on fundamental tools for research in Electrical and Computer Engineering, held weekly at FEUP, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (UPorto).

 

Every other week a distinguished invited researcher discusses his or her work, focusing on the fundamental mathematical tools that are core to their research. Intended audience includes researchers and graduate students from the different areas in ECE.

 

The goal of this colloquium is to promote awareness of fundamental tools and their use in ECE research, to promote interaction between researchers leading to cross-disciplinary research projects, and to raise the awareness of the international research community towards ECE research at UPorto.

 

Local researchers will discuss their work alternating with invited researchers.

The colloquium is held at the ECE department of UPorto (see location here) on Wednesdays at lunch time (13:00). A light lunch will be provided. Please register here.

This colloquium wants to contribute to the dynamics of the scientific culture in UPorto’s ECE Department and in other departments with similar interests. The goals of this colloquium are:

1. To promote quick dissemination of fundamental research done by local researchers
2. To enable direct contact of local researchers with outstanding researchers from top research institutions in the world
3. To increase the Department’s local and international scientific visibility through a series of talks by local and international researchers
4. To stimulate the quality of the research that is conducted in the Department
