Overcoming regulatory & QA hurdles for DBS studies and programs. |
| scope of the session |
|
As the industry continues to progress with Dried Blood Spots as an analytical technique for Discovery, Toxicokinetic and Clinical studies, the implications of this change reach far beyond the bioanalytical realm. With the potential for changing from plasma to blood TK/PK data part way through a compounds development, the regulatory implications need due consideration. In addition, as with the introduction of any novel approach, the Quality Assurance aspects around Dried Blood Spots also requires adequate discussion. The aim of this session is to raise the awareness of the challenges DBS brings with regard to regulatory submissions and QA, and to encourage audience interaction in identifying and overcoming potential hurdles. The presentations in this session will be followed by a panel discussion

Challenges and potential of DBS in Drug Discovery |
| scope of the session |
|
| This session will focus on the use of dried blood spot applications within the discovery environment. High quality presentations are expected across all aspects of discovery support fostering a informative dialogue on how DBS is impacting the non-regulatory environment. Discussion topics are expected to range from how the use of DBS facilitates the easy of collection, impact to pharmacology modelling and how DBs enables obtaining robust data from small animal models as well as other applications |

Challenges and potential of DBS in Toxicology |
| scope of the session |
|
The use of Dried Blood Spots for TK sampling offers the potential for significant benefits in terms of animal welfare and the 3Rs, not least being the potential to remove satellite TK animals completely. In addition, by reducing sample volumes and removing the need to derive plasma the animal sampling processes can be simplified greatly. However, if the full benefits of the technique are to be realised, then the implications of these changes must be fully understood and put into context. The aim of this session is to engage a multi-disciplined audience in understanding the huge potential of DBS in this area, whilst being mindful of the challenges which must be addressed to make it a success.
