       scope of the session:
This session will be a forum for all those who are dealing with DBS in the clinical environment covering various topics such as logistic aspects of DBS sampling, storage and shipping as well as routine application of DBS for drug monitoring and paediatric diagnostics, or for clinical studies. The aim of the session is to share experiences and discuss the challenges and advantages of DBS in the clinical setting. The presentations in this session, as scheduled below, will be followed by a panel discussion

10:30 - 11:30 Overcoming regulatory & QA hurdles for DBS studies and programs.
       scope of the session
As the industry continues to progress with Dried Blood Spots as an analytical technique for Discovery, Toxicokinetic and Clinical studies, the implications of this change reach far beyond the bioanalytical realm. With the potential for changing from plasma to blood TK/PK data part way through a compounds development, the regulatory implications need due consideration. In addition, as with the introduction of any novel approach, the Quality Assurance aspects around Dried Blood Spots also requires adequate discussion.
The aim of this session is to raise the awareness of the challenges DBS brings with regard to regulatory submissions and QA, and to encourage audience interaction in identifying and overcoming potential hurdles. The presentations in this session will be followed by a panel discussion
10:00 - 10:20  plenary speaker
10:20 - 10:35  oral presentation

17-Jun-2010

8:30 - 8:40 Welcome & Introduction

08:40 - 09:30  Plenary session
       scope of the session
A high level overview will be presented of the usage and new developments of DBS in the bioanalytical lab as well as the application of the technique in drug discovery and development. The session aims at providing the audience a prepared mind to actively participate in the stimulating discussion during the focussed sessions of day 1 and day 2 of the conference.

9:30 - 10:00 Break

10:00 - 11:30  Challenges and potential of DBS in Drug Discovery
       scope of the session
This session will focus on the use of dried blood spot applications within the discovery environment.  High quality presentations are expected across all aspects of discovery support fostering a informative dialogue on how DBS is impacting the non-regulatory environment.  Discussion topics are expected to range from how the use of DBS facilitates the easy of collection, impact to pharmacology modelling and how DBs enables obtaining robust data from small animal models as well as other applications

10:00 - 10:20  invited speaker
10:20 - 10:35  oral presentation
10:35 - 10:50  oral presentation
10:50 - 11:05 oral presentation

12:30 - 13:30  Lunch

13:30 - 15:00  Challenges and potential of DBS in Toxicology
       scope of the session

The use of Dried Blood Spots for TK sampling offers the potential for significant benefits in terms of animal welfare and the 3Rs, not least being the potential to remove satellite TK animals completely. In addition, by reducing sample volumes and removing the need to derive plasma the animal sampling processes can be simplified greatly. However, if the full benefits of the technique are to be realised, then the implications of these changes must be fully understood and put into context.
The aim of this session is to engage a multi-disciplined audience in understanding the huge potential of DBS in this area, whilst being mindful of the challenges which must be addressed to make it a success.
13:30 - 13:50  invited speaker
13:50 - 14:05  oral presentation
14:05 - 14:20  oral presentation

15:00 - 15:30  Break

15:30 -17:30  DBS and bioanalysis: challenges, successes, new developments
       scope of the session
This session will give bioanalysts the opportunity to share and discuss their experiences, both positive and negative, on developing DBS methods and, subsequentially, the qualification/validation of DBS methods, join an open discussion on different ways at looking at the validation parameters of DBS methods, and share cutting edge technology developments.
