A TASTE OF NEW ORLEANS: FUND RAISING DINNER

Over seventy people enjoyed some authentic N'Awlins cuisine and passed a good time. Red bean & rice, jambalaya, Frech bread and bread pudding were dished out to a hungry-crowd. Yum! All proceeds raised go towards our Restore the House project.
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT: LAST FLIGHT OUT

Another installment in Emmanuel's popular Family Movie Night was held on Sunday evening, August 16th. The film shown was Last Flight Out from Billy Graham ministries. The film tells the riveting story of international rescue and unresolved romance, delving into important truths about family, friendship and responsibility. The virtues of hard work, forgiveness and sacrificial love are emphasized. SWIM & BBQ PARTY

It is time for children to return to school, and in what is becoming an Emmanuel tradition, we once again celebrated with a huge BBQ and Swim party at the Jefferson City Community Pool. Over 70 people enjoyed hot dogs, chips and lots of wet fun in the pool! EBC 40TH ANNIVERSARY HOMECOMING

We celebrated our 40th anniversary as Emmanuel Baptist Church, having been previously known as Northside Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. To celebrate, Rev. Charles Phillips, one of our previous pastors, delivered the sermon. Nearly 400 people were present to help celebrate and enjoy a wonderful dinner following the service.
COMMUNITY BACKPACK OUTREACH

Each year, churches throughout the Jefferson County area join forces wtih Appalachian Outreach to supply needy students with backpacks filled with school supplies. Emmanuel is a regular participant with this effort, and this year we expanded our involvement. In addition to collecting school supplies, we also sent volunteers to help prepare the backpacks and help with the giveaway program on August 8th. Nearly 1000 backpacks were distributed, and numerous decisions were made for Christ. TUBING IN THE MOUNTAINS

Our family nights out at the pavilion during the summer months are always very popular. The evenings include a brief worship service, followed by food, fellowship and games. Fun for the entire family!

Watch out, Tiger Woods! Two dozen folks enjoyed dinner at The Diner in Sevierville, followed by a round of competitive, yet fun mini-golf. Several holes-in-one were achieved, and the there was a three-way tie for the win, all scoring a par at "39".

The EBC Women's Ministry sponsoring a pancake breakfast on Sunday, July 12th. A large group enjoyed a hearty meal of pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Over $400 was raised for the Restore the House project.

On May 24th, over fifty people enjoyed a Family Night Out at our outdoor pavilion. We enjoyed a brief worship service, followed by a delicious meal of hot dogs and all the fixins. Folks are still talking about Shelby McCarter's blueberry chessecake pizza! Lots of outdoor games were also enjoyed. The next Family Night Out is June 7th.
TENNESSEE SMOKIES EXCURSION

Take me out to the ball game! For the fourth year, the Xpedition Group traveled to Smokies stadium and enjoyed a good, old fashioned baseball game. 49 folks joined in the fun, having a great time in spite of the Smokies loss. The evening was capped-off with a fantastic fireworks show.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Emmanuel once again participated in the annual Relay for Life, a program that helps raise funds for cancer research.
MS WALK
APRIL 25, 2009
Supporting research to help defeat this dreaded disease, Emmanuel once again participated in the annual MS Walk on April 25th in downtown Knoxville. Members of our church raised over $900 to help fund research, walking five miles to show their dedication and help raise public awareness of this disease.

Another big Work Day was held on Saturday, March 14th. Painting, carpentry, plumbing, clean-up and more -- all were accomplished. We are well on the way with our "Restore the House" project.

The Xpedition Group enjoyed an evening of burgers and bowling on February 21st. Over 40 people enjoyed dinner at Quaker Steak & Lube, followed by several games of bowling at Fountain Lanes in Fountain City.

Work has already begun in preparation for our BIG church restoration that begins after Easter. A major work day was held on Saturday, February 21st, with nearly 40 people helping with painting, carpentry, clean-up and more. Another work party is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th.

Even though the Super Bowl may be over, there were still more games to be played! We hosed our 2nd Annual Frozen Tundra flag football game on February 8th. Two dozen men and women joined in the fun, which saw the Pesky Possums defeat the Annoyed Weasels. A rematch has been demanded!
COSTA RICA MISSION TRIP
JANUARY 30 - FEBRUARY 8, 2009
Following the directives given by our Lord, Emmanuel once again headed to Costa Rica to continue the work we have been doing for over ten years. Bob Ogle has traveled to the Central American country over twenty times, and once again helped with projects at Mansion de Luz and Cinqo Esquinas churches.
HIKING EXCURSION - COURTHOUSE ROCK

Aften canceling this hike three times last year due to poor weather, we finally made the trek to Courthouse Rock. The hike to Courthouse Rock in the Smoky Mountains National Park was relatively short -- 4.2 miles, and seven hearty trekkers made the journey. The trail passes several historical sites and culminates in an awesome boulder formation that offers fine views of the surrounding mountains. KNOXVILLE ICE BEARS EXCURSION

Winter in East Tennessee means Ice Hockey, and the Xpedition Group attended the Knoxville Ice Bears game on February 6th. The group enjoyed a spirited game, and wiener dog races during the intermission!
COUPLE'S RETREAT
JANUARY 16 - 18, 2009
Fourteen couples attended Emmanuel's Couples Retreat, held on January 16 - 18th at beautiful Carson Sprinsg Baptist Conference Center near the Smoky Mountains. A wide range of topics were discussed, all aimed at helping couples build a healthier and more dynamic marriage. It was a fabulous weekend that concluded with a fun-filled "We've Been Married How Long?" game and a private service.

MOVIE NIGHT - A VOW TO CHERISH

Emmanuel continued its Family Movie Night series with an absolutely fabulous film: A Vow to Cherish. Nearly 50 people from throughout the community enjoyed this fabulous, deeply moving film. Produced by World Wide Pictures, part of the Billy Graham enterprises, the movie is a deeply moving story of the power of faith, hope and love. This movie should be ESSENTIAL viewing for all married couples, as well as anyone planning to marry.
CHRISTMAS PAJAMA PARTY

On December 21st, Emmanuel continued its tradition of having a Christmas pajama party for our children at the evening services. Children enjoyed a reading of The Legend of the Christmas Stocking, along with the singing of Christmas carols. Following services, everyone enjoyed delicious goodies and treats. Each year, the youth visit and sing Christmas carols for our members who are home-bound and residing in area nursing homes. This year, over two dozen youth and members of the Discipleship Bible class brought poinsettias and some Christmas cheer to these folks.

On Sunday, December 14th, over 65 folks joined Emmanuel to attend the fabulous Christmas production presented by the good folks at New Hope Church in Kodak. This is an outstanding production, filled with song and drama. Part of this year's production was brand new, and it was every bit as good as in years past.
HIKING IN THE SMOKIES
NOVEMBER 22, 2008
On Saturday, November 22nd, Xpedition Group members headed into the Smoky Mountains and hiked to Albright Grove. The temperature was 22 degrees when we hit the trail, and the snow on the ground grew thicker as we progressed. There was no one else on the trail that day, allowing us to really enjoy some wonderful peace and beauty.

Each year, churches of various Christian denominations come together as a body of believers to sing praise to and worship our Lord. It is a wonderful experience, and includes a choir composed of members from all of the churches involved. This year, Emmanuel hosted the community event, which was well attended.

This year's Harvest Festival was one of our most successful ever. Well over 100 children enjoyed hot dogs, a wide variety of carnival games, and our "Trunk R Treat" event. It was great to bring a smile to the faces of these children, and expose them to our church and the love of our Lord.

Fireproof is the new movie from the church that brought us Flywheel and Facing the Giants. The movie centers on the struggles of a young couple facing a myriad of problems, yet fighting to save their marriage.
The Xpedition Group traveled to the Riviera Theatre in downtown Knoxville on September 27th, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed this FANTASTIC movie.

EMMANUEL ON THE PATH GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONIES
SEPTEMBER 7, 2008
After years of planning, ground-breaking began on the Emmanuel on the Path Prayer Garden on Sunday, September 7th. Festivities and events included a church-wide breakfast, followed by prayer and worship services. Ground-breaking was held immediately following services. Work on the garden is expected to begin at the end of the month.
BICYCLING THE CREEPER TRAIL

On September 6th, The Xpedition group bicycled 17 miles down the Creeper Trail near Damascus, Virginia. This is always one of our most popular excursions, as we get to enjoy the great outdoors, including fantastic mountain scenery.
This year was no exception, as over two dozen people enjoyed the beautiful scenery and fun ride down the mountain. BOOMSDAY

For the third straight year, we enjoyed an outing to downtown Knoxville to enjoy the wonderful fireworks and festivities of BoomsDay. Food, fellowship and fireworks were enjoyed by all!
MOUNTAIN CITY CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL

On Saturday, August 30, Emmanuel Baptist high school and college youth traveled to Mountain City to help at a Childrens Festival held in conjunction with an Across Festival in that area. EBC Youth made balloon animals, witnessing bracelets, and did face painting for children who came by our booth.

Nearly 100 people enjoyed a fun outing of swimming, barbeque and great fellowship, as Emmanuel spent the evening of Sunday, August 10th at the Jefferson City pool.
TUBING ADVENTURE

Wet fun was enjoyed as the Xpedition Group tubed down the Little River in Townsend. 21 participants made two trips down the river, and enjoyed a delicious barbeque lunch at Little River BBQ.
JULY 10 - 19, 2008
Nineteen folks from Emmanuel recently traveled to Costa Rica, serving at two different churches and their surrounding neighborhoods in the San Jose area. The teams helped with various construction projects, as well as Vacation Bible Schools, a basketball camp for inner-city youth, and ministering to folks in the neighborhoods. This excursion marked Emmanuel's 22nd mission trip to Costa Rica.

JUNE 29 - JULY 4, 2008
Passways is Youth Camping with a Mission, with a major emphasis on missions as part of the program. Many of our youth attended this program at Wingate University in North Carolina.

Youth from arond the community enjoyed a totally rad Beach Party at VBS, where they learned to "Surf the Scriptures". Crafts, drama, sports, outdoor activities, food and education were all part of the fun!

Each year, Emmanuel hosts volunteers from around the United States who come to serve the local community via Appalachian Outreach. Our church not only fed breakfast and dinner to the volunteers, but also sent teams to help with the various home repair and refurbishing projects.
