HISTORY
Back in 1901 students at Carson Newman College were involved in leading Bible studies and worship on the north side of town. Those early beginnings developed into a church. In September 28, 1902 Emmanuel Baptist Church was born, with its first name being the Second Baptist Church of Jefferson City. The church was sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. In the 1920s the name was changed to Northside to better identify with its surroundings. That name remained until 1969 when it relocated to the present location at 1916 Overlook Avenue. The name was changed to Emmanuel Baptist Church to reflect a more theological note, rather than a residential location.
At Emmanuel, we continue to gather week after week to celebrate the presence of God with Us. In September of 2002, we marked 100 years and celebrated our 100th anniversary.
Emmanuel is an exciting place to be. We reach out to the community in many different ways, and strive to form strong bonds of fellowship within the congregation. We continue to develop, which gives opportunity for more and more people to become involved and help influence the way that we are going. We are now over 100 years old, but we continue to learn what it is to be directed by the presence of the Lord among us. From the nursery to the senior adults there is a place for people to participate in Bible study, singing, music programs, and mission endeavors, as well as to grow in nature and faith. We truly endeavor to share hope and meet need through word, gift, and deed as we worship together. | MISSION STATEMENT
Emmanuel Baptist Church exists to glorify God by proclaiming the message of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. This is to be accomplished by developing mature Christians through sound Biblical teaching, by providing warm, friendly worship, and by sharing hope through salvation with our community and the world by word, gift, and deed.
