Ebay Buyer Hall of Shame

This site is dedicated to the victims of abuse by Ebay buyers.  Ebay no longer allows buyers to receive negative feedback, which is encouraging more and more buyers to try to scam Ebay sellers.  Examples of these scams include:
  • Feedback extortion: Demanding a partial refund from a seller after a transaction is concluded and nothing is wrong with the merchandise. The buyer threatens to give the seller negative feedback if the money isn't forthcoming.  Many sellers would rather part with a few dollars than have their reputations sullied.  Ebay claims to act on reports of feedback extortion, but in fact they almost never do.
  • Paypal chargeback fraud: After the seller ships the merchandise, the buyer uses a Paypal chargeback to take back the money that was paid.
  • Missing merchandise fraud: The buyer claims the merchandise never arrived, and tells the seller to refund the money or ship another item. Delivery confirmation from UPS or USPS shows that the buyer did indeed receive the original package, but the buyer simply denies it.

Hall of Shame Buyer: Ebay ID jojo349199
Victim: Ebay ID exhausted_homeowner

Buyer's actions: Attempt to extort refund of shipping costs:

Dear exhausted_homeowner,
My item arrived today. However, you charged me $1.30 for Mandatory insurance. UPS gives you insurance up to the first $100 free. You charged me then kept the money. I would like that $1.30 returned. You charged me then kept the money. I would like that $1.30 returned. I will not submit feedback before I receive the return of those fraudulently taken funds. Return my funds by 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time or I will file an official complaint.

Victims's response:
Shipping charges were calculated by Ebay and known to jojo349199 before he placed his bid.  After receiving the item, jojo349199 demanded a partial refund of the shipping charges, and then left me negative feedback when I did not do so. Interestingly enough, Googling jojo349199 reveals that he has scammed other sellers (for example, by demanding a refund for "broken" merchandise, while refusing to return it) and other buyers (for example, by selling pirated copies of software as "legal copies"). Furthermore, while he complains about a $1.30 insurance charge, the shipping charges on his own auctions are extraordinarily high. For example, in auction 140272869782 he is asking for $14.69 for shipping for a set of trading card sent by ground, where the true shipping cost would be about $3.00. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
