Worship Sharing/Discussion Groups : Journaling as Prayer (worship sharing) To be Broken and Tender (worship discussion) | Time: January and February, 1st and 3rd Sundays, 12:30-1:30 pm
Starting in April, 4th Sunday, 12:30-1:30 pm Join us as we explore journaling as a method of
personal communication with God in which we seek and listen for God's
direct responses to our hearts. We will be discussing the works of
spiritual authors who have inspired us, such as Neale Donald Walsch,
Sonia Choquette and others. Over the course of the first two months, we will
share our experiences with one another at our meetings and through
email between meetings. (We have been meeting from January. During the meeting on the third Sunday of March, we decided to continue to meet once a month on the fourth Sunday. We discussed two books by Neale Donald Walsch: "Conversations with God" and "Happier than God". We also discussed Judy Brutz's pamphlet "In the Manner of the Lord's Prayer". ) Led by Lynn Fitz-Hugh and Christie Seligman Journaling as Prayer - Wo...hip Sharing Group sign up Book: To Be Broken and Tender: A Quaker Theology for Today, by
Margery Post Abbott (Western Friend/Friends Bulletin Corporation, 2010) In her new book Marge Abbott says -- and demonstrates -- that Quakers
practice narrative theology. That is, we explore what we believe by
telling our stories. Marge tells her own story of being led (often
reluctantly) into Quaker witness and ministry. She writes from a deep
study of early Quaker thought on the one hand and personal experience
of the Presence of God on the other. Marge writes from a Christian
perspective but respects and draws from other spiritual traditions. One
reviewer says she "bridges the divide between activism and mysticism,
between evangelicals and liberals, between 17th century and postmodern
Friends, between crippling fear and faithful courage."
Her book is in six parts, with queries for each section. We'll meet for seven weeks -- one for each part, plus a summary session to tie it all together. We'll go deep into: what we believe, sources of our Light, challenges on our spiritual paths, and "growing edges" in our spiritual lives. We will meet on a weekday evening, either Mondays or Wednesdays, starting in mid-January. Please let Debbie Townsend know if you are interested in participating: we will figure out a schedule that works for us. To be Broken and Tender Sign in |
