With advancements in science and technology, one day we will be able to visit Mars and other planets. Scientists need to understand the earth-sun connections so we can move out into space and inhabit other planets. One of the main goals of NASA is to learn about the connection between the sun and its planets, to be able to safely navigate in space.

NASA, with its different agencies, explores the fundamental physical processes involved with the Sun, Earth, and other planets by collecting information about the flow of energy within the solar system. The information NASA collects about the Sun and its planetary environment is also made available to institutions and individuals who study the connection between the sun and the planet.

By understanding the energy exchanges involving the Sun, solar wind, and planets, we can better understand the fundamental physical processes that occur throughout the Universe. NASA’s research will allow us to prepare for the harsh effects the solar environment will have on humans, technology, and life on other planets.

Advances in technology has given us the ability to look deep into the internal workings of the Sun and understand how earth’s magnetosphere and magnetic field work and respond to solar activity.  Fortunately, the information we collect from earth’s magnetosphere and its magnetic field is helping us understand the inner workings of the magnetic fields of other planets and the energy exchanges that take place within them.
 

The images and information collected by NASA help us to understand the complex system of forces and their relationship with each other and their interactions in the solar system.
