Earth Science Honors is a hands on course that explores the world through inquiry learning and problem solving. There is a significant laboratory component to this course. The emphasis in Earth Science Honors is on learning how scientists work and solve problems. Students will also have the opportunity to explore different areas of Earth Science on their own through projects and article reviews.
The concepts students will be learning are based on Florida's Sunshine State Standards. The textbook for this course is Earth Science by Tarbuck and Lutgens, 10th Edition. Other resources will be used extensively in this course; some useful online resources are listed under Additional Resources.
Objectives: Using the organizational structures of the Sunshine State Standards we will:
- Study and analyze the Earth as a system
- Develop and apply critical thinking and analysis skills
- Develop scientific laboratory skills
- In order to become an independent learner

Article Review 2 is due 10/26 (blue) and 10/27 (gold)
Science Fair project ideas due 10/26 (blue) and 10/27 (gold)
Final Science Fair paper and log book due 12/8 (blue) and 12/9 (gold)
Blue Days are periods 1, 3, 5, 7 and Gold Days are 2,4
Important Notes to Parents and Students:
- A good way to help your student do well academically is to get Parent Internet Viewer to keep track of your students grades.
- I will send a syllabus that contains my classroom rules and student expectations as well as important safety information home with your student for both of you to review and sign.
- The back page of the safety contract must be signed and returned to me before the student will be able to begin laboratory activities or receive credit for any laboratory related work.
- There is a $5 lab fee for Earth Science Honors
