The Terry Fox Run
We all know what an extraordinary person Terry Fox was. Three years after having his right leg amputated because of cancer, he wanted to help the millions of others who were fighting this terrible disease. So he decided he would run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry knew that in order to do this he needed to have hope and he needed to have courage. Terry had these things and he had ambition, strength and he was able to set his mind to something and never give up.
He started his journey on April 12th, 1980, and ran 42 kilometers a day for 143 days. He ran all through Newfoundland and Canada's Atlantic provinces. However, on September 1st, cancer has appeared in Terry's lungs, and he was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Then, sadly, on June 28th 1981, Terry Fox passed away.
To date, over 400 million dollars has been raised all over the world for cancer research in Terry's name. It has been raised through the annual Terry Fox Run, held all over Canada and around the world.
Our school is one of many who support the Terry Fox Run and donate money to cancer research every year, in memory of the great Canadian that never gave up hope.
