It is our hope that this event will encourage women to start Mother's Groups.
Starting a Mother's Group is EASY, it's simple and it doesn't have to take much of your time!
Steps in Starting a Mother's Group
1. Prayerfully decide if you want your group to be parish based or home based.
2. Talk to your parish priest.
3. Buy the Mothering, Full of Grace DVD series.
4. Put an "blurb" in your parish bulletin. Make sure your blurb asks for email addresses.
5. Build a list of women who are interested over a period of time.
6. Schedule the Mother's Group once a month at 8pm in the evening.
7. Inform "your " mothers of the meetings both visa vis email and the church bulletin.
8. Use the following format:
8:00pm Short Prayer & Welcome (Some groups pray the entire rosary)
8:30pm DVD (22 minutes or speaker)
9:00pm Discussion over refreshments (Invite mothers to bring stuff)
9. Do not worry if all the same mothers do not come every week. Do not think if it's a waste of time if there is only one mother present at your meeting. Remember you are not doing this for them. You are doing this for God. You do your best and God will do the rest!
We have found that by meeting with other women of Faith, once a month has stengthened and inspired us. Starting a Mother's Group is really quite a simple task now that we have a tool. A professional tool developed by Salt & Light Media Foundation.
Currently there are five Mother's Groups that have used the Mothering, Full of Grace DVD series as a part of their mission to evangelize and minister to mothers. Each Mother's Group has it's own unque charism, it's own goals, it's own style, usually reflected by the facilitator of that group. Some of the groups are based out of the facilitator's home, others are parish based. Again each group is animated by the particular gifts given by the Holy Spirit to the specific group leader. These are some of the parish based groups:
St. Casmir's Church in Toronto
Contact: Bozena Zambrowicz
St Mary of the Visitation in Cambridge
Contact: Anita Healy
St. Bernadette's Parish in Ajax
Contact: Cathy Haynes
Please note any mothers from the Durham Region are welcome
We strongly believe that anything worth doing for Our Lord is worth doing imperfectly. Our groups are not perfect, but they are filled with love, a genuine conviction, and a determination to plant seeds.
There are many different types of Catholic Mother's Groups. Our format is just one of many. If you would like still more information, consider reading this article on How to Start a Catholic Mother's Group. It's thorough and works on a slightly different premise. The important thing is to do it !
