This is the guidance section of the DVES website.         WELCOME
Guidance has been at dves since 1989.
The dves guidance program has many parts:
    * there is classroom instruction - to teach pro social skills with the secondary agenda of knowing the dves population, how they interact with their peers, deal with and solve problems.
    * parents meetings
    * disciplinary issues
    * crisis interventions

    * student check-ins

This year, for the first six weeks of school, I am partnering with Mr. Walling, to introduce Project Adventure to our students.  There is a complete description of this program in the PE section of the DVES webpage.

After this introduction Mr. Walling will continue with Project Adventure and I will begin with grade level Guidance classes.

The guidance program at DVES is a proactive one, meaning it teaches students the skills and concepts they can use to address intra - and inter- personal issues. During the school year guidance classes investigate the following areas: identifying feelings, anger management, conflict resolutions, friendships, personal safety, puberty education (4th grade), growth and development (5th grade), and introduction to jobs and careers.

I see all the students in their classrooms dealing with the above topics. This regular involvement with the students lets them get to know me so if there is ever a time that a student or parent wants to see me about an issue I already have a relationship with the child. Some special issues that guidance has dealt with are: extended illness, death, separation, divorce, remarriage, abuse, anxiety, peer pressure, bullying and "is my child normal?" Any parent can call or Email me to make an appointment to see me.
