TWENTY YEARS AFTER THE VELVET REVOLUTION DID NOT HAPPEN Twenty Years After the Velvet Revolution Did Not Happen was created as a civic initiative in January 2010 by a group of young visual artists and theorists (Tomáš Džadoň, Palo Fabuš, Marián Grolmus, Jana Kapelová, Michal Moravčík, Mária Rišková, Lucia Sceranková, Pavla Sceranková, Dušan Zahoranský). They started a discussion about several neuralgic points of Slovak art scene, such as transparency during the selection process of the new Slovak National Gallery director, ongoing struggle to open Kunsthalle-type public institution in Bratislava, vitality of existing public institutions, procrastination with reconstruction of „overbridge“ part of the Slovak National Gallery building... Discussion has severar layers, from internet forums and e-mail communication to working meetings. Initiative support the open dialogue and invites everybody who wants to improve the situation in Slovak art scene to join. Gradually, more members of the art scene joined the discussion (such as employees of the Slovak National Gallery, City Gallery of Bratislava, Board of Galleries of Slovakia, SOGA, Institute of History of Art – Slovak Academy of Science, Slovak Section of AICA, Academy of Art and Design Bratislava, individual artists and theorists) as well as representatives of Ministry of Culture. Organisers are trying to create a platform opened to everyone, while they document and publish contributions and sumarize important information on their website.
