Announcements & Updates


Check out the DLC News & Media page, which includes major news items, media clips, and links to recent DLC newsletters. Here are a few highlights:
  • We will be closed on Labor Day (Monday, September 6).  Area libraries will also be closed. Please share this information with your students.
  • Welcome to the 25+ newly trained Adult Literacy and ESOL tutors who will be joining us this semester!  We truly appreciate your commitment to sharing the gift of literacy.
  • The Teen Career Academy's fall semester is off to a great start! We currently have space for several new students.  Call 323-6039 to learn more or to register for a Friday morning (9am) placement test.
  • The DLC's Youtube Channel now contains highlights from the 2010 Leaders in Literacy Breakfast, including excerpts from students, Mayor Bill Bell, Congressman David Price, Dick Gordon, and other invited guests. 
  • The DLC recently honored its founder, Mary Whaley Paul, at an event attended by over 200 students, tutors and friends of the DLC, including Congressman David Price, Durham Mayor Bill Bell, and Dick Gordon, host of NPR’s “The Story.” Learn more.   • Many thanks to Océ, which provided high quality printing services free of charge for the Leaders in Literacy Breakfast. 
  • The DLC was one of the top ten fundraisers at the 2010 Great Human Race! Learn more
  • RTI International's Community Partnership Program generously donated $1,500 to the DLC to support our literacy services across Durham County! Debbie Lee presented the check to DLC staff on March 23. See photos here.
  • The Durham Literacy Center was named Agency of Excellence by the United Way of the Greater Triangle!  Read more.
