Export Microsoft Excel chart as eps or tiff formatIn the worlds of electronic publishing, you are required to submit illustations, figures in EPS format. Encapsulated PostScript, or EPS, is a DSC-conforming PostScript document with additional restrictions intended to make EPS files usable as a graphics file format. EPS is vector graphics and preferred by most journals because it is scable and one can zoom in without seeing large pixels in most cases. Most illustration software allows to save an illustration as an EPS file. Unfortunately, Microsoft Excel does not have an option to save its chart as EPS format.I explored a number of possible ways to convert charts to eps format. The following is the best I found: 1. Move or copy chart to the new worksheet. 2. Print Excel chart to PDF format (requires full version of acrobat or third party pdf writer). (File/Print commad in Excel) 2. Open the pdf file in Acrobat. 3. Crop the image (because you see the image only in a part of the page) using crop tool of Acrobat. You can crop the image by choosing Tools > Advanced Editing > Crop Tool and dragging a cropping rectangle on the page. Croping of the image is required to have correct boundbox in EPS. 4. Save as EPS or Tiff format. Export Microsoft visio file to eps formatI explored a number of possible ways to convert visio files to eps format. The following is the best I found:1. Print visio file to PDF format (requires full version of acrobat or third party pdf writer). 2. Open the pdf file in Acrobat. 3. Crop the image (because you see the image only in a part of the page) using crop tool of Acrobat. You can crop the image by choosing Tools > Advanced Editing > Crop Tool and dragging a cropping rectangle on the page. Croping of the image is required to have correct boundbox in EPS. or you just need a PDF figure with correct size. In that case, you can set the document size in Visio: File -> Page Setup -> Page Size (tab) -> Size to fit drawing contents, and then save the Visio document to PDF, which will then be in correct size 4. Save as EPS or Tiff format. Remove line breaks or unnecessary paragraph marks in Microsoft WordIf you paste text into a Word document from an email message or some other program you may find many manual line breaks are inserted which interfere with the layout of the text.Note: Manual line breaks are displayed as a small return arrow when you use the Show/Hide option in Word, for example: One way of dealing with these manual line breaks is to go through the text and delete each one and let Word reformat the text. Or, another option is to use Word's "Find and Replace" feature to replace each manual line break with a space. To do this:
![]()
The text should now only require some minor formatting. How to resize the Microsoft Excel chart? If you want to have same size of excel charts, it is not easy. Only option, you have is to resize with mouse, and therefore it is alsmost impossible to have same size of charts. In order to solve this problem, I have created small visual basic for applicaion VBA macro to resize the chart. Click here for more information and download. |
