Food!   Fund Raisers!  Fun!

And not a lot of work! We all love to eat and what couldn’t be a better way than to have potlucks with a theme to earn some money with little work.  Over the next year, our Fund Raiser Committee has come up with six fun potluck themes.  Our first potluck will be November 21.  The theme is Celebrating our Success in 2010.  It will be at 11:30 right after Charge Conference.   Everyone is to bring a dish to pass.  We are asking for a $10 donation from each family or whatever you can donate.  Where else can a family eat for that price?  But if you forget about the dinner on that Sunday, come ahead and eat.  There is always plenty to eat.  We do need some help from just a few people each potluck.  Please come and let us know which potluck you would like to be in charge of or we will come looking for you.  You only have to volunteer for just one day and it won’t be a lot of work.

We are working hard with coming up with ideas to help raise money and to get more people involved with the church.  So if you want to join our committee of three, please come and talk to us.  Or if you have any ideas, don’t forget to share them with us.

Mary Erickson, Beth Spielman, Becky Greene

Join Us For The 2011 Lenten Lunch Program

These lunches are designed to nourish both body and spirit. A free, simple lunch will be served, followed by a prayer service or lesson led by one of the participating churches. A free will donation will be collected for the general Ecumenical Council fund. Everyone is invited. The lunches will be held each Wednesday, March 16 through April 13, in the community room at Durand United Methodist Church. Lunch will be served, buffet style, beginning shortly after 12:00 noon with the program starting at about 12:20, ending in time for you to be back to work or home by 1:00 p.m. The program is casual, so if your schedule demands that you come late or leave early, you won’t miss lunch or interrupt the service. This is an excellent way to prepare yourself for a more meaningful Easter. Each lunch will be different. Please join us for one or more of them, even if you are not a member of one of the Durand churches.

Lenten Bible Study

Pastor Brian will be leading a Lenten Bible Study on March 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th at 7:00 PM. We’ll be using Adam Hamilton’s book 24 Hours That Changed the World. We ran into some problems with the paperback version as it is only a devotional book and not the book that will be used for the Bible Study. We have ordered some through Cokesbury and will be available to those who are signing up for $12.59 per book. There are 7 chapters and we’ll read 2 per week for the first three weeks, then the last for the final week. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Brian.

Powered by the Holy Spirit, 'Rethink Church' serves as a catalyst that moves the denomination, and those we hope to reach, into dialogue -- and ultimately, into transformative, collaborative action. What if church were a verb? What would it look like? In support of this goal, here are Scriptures, ideas, and new ministry tools for your church.

The Evidence of Jesus' Resurrection

Dear DUM Church family!

What a beautiful sunshine we have! May the joy and peace of Jesus' resurrection continue to indwell in your life!

(Click for the Holy Week Pictures of DUMC)
Yes, we had a wonderful holy week and happy Easter Sunday. Our church family so faithfully participated in services. Our confirmation class even did a major roles in the Good Friday Cross Walk at Rockford. Did you see our students on TV evening news carrying a wooden cross through downtown? I am so happy that we've gone on this journey of Christ thinking about and meditating his love for us. May the power of God who raised Jesus strengthen you in your life places!

Yes, we need the conviction of the Lord's presence everyday. It's because as our life goes on, we face many challenges and difficulties in our daily lives. This Sunday, I will preach how to overcome the ongoing struggles of life with the power of Jesus Christ who is risen and being in the midst of our situation. The first century people, not only us.., also had to find out the meaning of Jesus' resurrection to face their 'here and now' situation. They were excited by Jesus resurrection, but some of them in doubts of if they were truly connected to Jesus' power. That's why the risen Lord Jesus continued to appear to them (500 people) saying, "Peace be with you!" Our Lord truly shares the power of his resurrection through giving peace to us. Let us come and find out the secret of peace and power that work in the hearts of the resurrection people.

Easter Season Sermon Series goes on:
4/4  "Because He Lives"
4/11 "Over the doubts"
4/18 "The Recovering Power of Love"
4/25 "The Resurrecton People Hear His Voice."
