Duncan House School, Great Yarmouth, England, 1946 Document copy from Great Yarmouth Central Library School life was so strict
The year was 1946 and these are pupils of the Duncan House School, once in Albert Square, Great Yarmouth.
The school changed its name to Duncan Hall when it moved to Scratby Hall some years later but it is now long gone.
Reader David Taylor, who celebrated his 60th birthday last month, is pictured sitting fifth from the left.
"It was a very strict place. The teachers all wore their mortar boards and big gowns," recalled Mr Taylor, who lives in Caister. Click on photo to enlarge.
| "When one of the boys was given the slipper, it seemed like there was going to be a hanging!" Mr Taylor, who has run Tower caravan park in the village for 40 years, remembers his aunt persuaded the Red Bus company to stop at Caister Post Office to make his journey to school easier.
Blue Buses called at Caister but they only went as far as the Market Place, and the station for Red buses was nearer to school, he explained. Mr Taylor added: "It's a long while ago now. I think the school moved because they needed bigger premises, but I left before then."
