The world is now far too dangerous for anything less than Utopia.—Buckminster Fuller

Definition of "Entheogen"

by R. Gordon Wasson.

ENTHEOGEN nov. verb.:

'God within us', those plant substances that, when ingested, give one a divine experience, in the past commonly called 'hallucinogens', 'psychedelics', 'psychotomimetics', etc etc, to each of which serious objections can be made.

A group headed by the Greek scholar Carl A.P. Ruck advances 'entheogen' as fully filling the need, notably catching the rich cultural resonances evoked by the substances, many of them fungal, over vast areas of the world in proto- and prehistory. See Journal of Psychedelic Drugs Vol 11.1-2, 1979, pp 145-6. We favor the adoption of this word.

Early Man, throughout much of Eurasia and the Americas, discovered the properties of these substances and regarded them with profound respect and even awe, hedging them about with bonds of secrecy. We are now rediscovering the secret and we should treat the 'entheogens' with the respect to which they were richly entitled. As we undertake to explore their role in the early history of religions, we should call them by a name unvulgarized by hippy abuse."

Hey, nobody realized the pretty little thing was dead! We all just thought it was resting. Pining for the fjords, y'know. And let's not
forget Pastor Craig going after that beast with his Third Nostril!

There is videotape of Legume using that shock machine on me though -
undoubtedly soon to be an audio clip on SubSITE, as I intone over and over
again "Oh, I'm supposed to _let go_ if it hurts too much!"

They should have come over and hated "Bob" with us!

Actually I did videotape Legume attempting with his Zapper to get the
Squid to at least TWITCH.

Funny you should mention that audio clip, Friday. Jesus did in fact
TrueSpeechify it last night. Only the line he used was "...and you stand
over here, Stang, and we'll each grab a dick!"

??? I wanna hear what which drummers were saying. 'Cause some of those
drummers are also US.

Many of you seemed to be impressed with the paleolithic spectacle of the
drummers around the fire. You ain't seen NOTHIN'! At the larger festivals
(like Starwood), one sees DOZENS of drummers and HUNDREDS of dancers, and
you feel like you just stepped into a Neanderthal Cave Bear Barbecue. The
paramedics from Sherman sure were freaked to see that, the night that one
guy fire-walked without bringing enough FAITH with him.

Keep in mind that some of these neo-pagans are basically fundamentalist
religious nuts, New Age style. However, they're generally a little more
tolerant than Baptists, so I got no problem with that.

Apparently all the laughing we do is considered "negative energy" by some
people.

HEH HEH HEH!!!! HYAH HYAH HYAH!!!

Sheriff investigating sweat-lodge damage on Valmont Butte

Spiritual site on Valmont Butte was 'desecrated'

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office began investigating the destruction of a American Indian sweat lodge on Valmont Butte on Thursday afternoon, following a report of damage to the historic site.

Spiritual leader Robert Cross -- who was informed Wednesday by the city of Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks about the damage to the ceremonial lodge -- filed the police report.

The Valmont Butte site, considered sacred by American Indians, is owned by the city of Boulder.

Cross, an Oglala Lakota, expressed frustration that no one had reported the destruction of the spiritual site to police before he did.

"If this had happened to a church, it would have been all over the country," he said.

Participants have used the butte on Boulder's eastern edge for regular prayer ceremonies and have access to a city shed where they store equipment for the sweat lodge.

Cross had not seen the site Thursday but was informed that the wooden sweat lodge had been torn out of the ground and that all of the equipment used during the ceremonies was missing.

"Somebody desecrated my spiritual area," Cross said.

In a sweat-lodge ceremony, water is thrown on rocks that have been heated over fire. The steam created cleanses the body of toxins and heals the body emotionally and spiritually, some American Indians believe, and the practice can be traced back thousands of years.

The destruction was discovered by Boulder's facilities and fleet manager, Bill Boyes, Wednesday while he was meeting with a contractor on Valmont Butte.

He noticed that the door to the butte shed was open and, when he went to investigate, saw that it had been broken into. He reported the break-in to Doug Newcomb at the Open Space and Mountain Parks department.

"I looked inside and saw rags and rodent droppings," Boyes said. "There was nothing there."

He said the padlocked gate blocking the entrance to the upper area of the butte was undisturbed.

Cross said he finds the circumstances suspicious because there are a limited number of people with keys to that upper gate.

The city of Boulder has tentatively agreed to sell off 71 acres of the 101-acre Valmont Butte site to the nonprofit Trust for Public Lands Valmont Butte, which hopes to then sell the property to community groups and tribes. But earlier this month, the City Council said the sale might not be the best option because the city could lose a substantial amount of money based on a new appraisal of the site.

I assume that the reader is familiar with the idea of

psychokinesis. These disturbing phenomena seem to deny
all our usual scientific ideas. How we should like to discredit
them!  Unfortunately the statistical evidence, at least for
telepathy, is over-whelming.  It is very difficult to rearrange
one's ideas so as to fit these new facts in. Once one has
accepted them it does not seem a very big step to believe in
ghosts and bogies. The idea that our bodies move simply
according to the known laws of physics, together with some
others not yet discovered but somewhat similar, would be one
of the first to go. . . . Many scientific theories seem to remain
workable in practice, in spite of clashing with ESP; that in fact
one can get along very nicely if one forgets about it. This is
rather cold comfort, and one fears that thinking is just the kind

      SOMEWHERE IN USA

There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch Productions!

      Politics and society

Professor Bernardo de La Paz describes himself as a "Rational Anarchist" in the book. This term appears to be first used in this book, and is thus an entirely fictional variant of anarchist philosophy. "Rational Anarchists" believe that the concepts of State, Society and Government have no existence but for the "acts of self-responsible individuals".

During WW II , Heinlein worked at the US Naval Air Experimental Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Robert A. Heinlein, L. Sprague de Camp, and Isaac Asimov at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in 1944.

The Rational part of the term Rational Anarchist comes from the acknowledgment that other people do not believe in Rational Anarchism and/or Anarchism itself.

Further, the desire for anarchy is balanced by the logic that some form of government is needed, if only to suit those who insist that they themselves are incapable of running their own lives.

Knowing this fact, a Rational Anarchist, according to RAH,"attempts to "live perfectly in an imperfect world". For Professor de la Paz, Lunar society is close to ideal.

"A rational anarchist believes that concepts such as ‘state’ and ‘society’ and ‘government’ have no existence save as physically exemplified in the acts of self-responsible individuals," Prof says. In other words, all choices are made by individuals and no individual can shift or share responsibility for his own choices.

Wyoh challenges Prof: "Professor, your words sound good but there is something slippery about them. Too much power in the hands of individuals—surely you would not want... well, H-missiles for example—to be controlled by one irresponsible person?" she says. Prof answers by saying that individuals in fact do hold the power to use nuclear weapons, and such an individual is ultimately responsible for their use, whether he chooses to acknowledge and accept that responsibility or not. "In terms of morals there is no such thing as a ‘state.’ Just men. Individuals. Each responsible for his own acts," he says. "I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free, because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything that I do."

Later in the book, Prof calls Thomas Jefferson the "first of the rational anarchists."

I had to hold back the tears...it's so obvious. i just sat back in the chair and it was all that i could do to just avoid sobbing, because i have been researching this particular area of the psionic sciences for a decade, HARD! and i could see that she was a victim, like she had said.

and it's hellish. to be born into sexual slavery, to be told to shut up about her victimhood, her status as a target for rape as a child all through her life: it stands to reason that after a life of such degradation: perhaps she WOULD end her child's life while she was young and innocent, before the rape and denial began for her, too.

the idea of mothers mercy killing their children is not at all uncommon.

at all. to spare them a worse fate? like all the lying, raping, using males around who would conspire against her?

there's too much evidence, and after a while the stench of lies, denial and conspiracy, the institutionalized misogyny which we all know of, disgusts, and disgusts.

so-called "Christians" attempt to explain this by making lipflap about Eve and Original Sin.

if Christ had not appeared and forgiven ALL, and suffered mortal death at his Golgotha for ALL BEINGS, most especially Eve and Adam, both the parents of his flesh and the children of His creation --

Christians are SUCH hypocrites. This is why: so much war in Ireland particularly. Disgustingly such Monotheist hypocrites have sent many people thinking that Satanism is a logical choice.

This is the actual world that we live in, and will change, for good or ill.

      PROJECT MONARCH PROGRAMMING DEFINITIONS

      1. ALPHA - This is considered "regular programming." This is actually what would be considered a "base Personality" control. The original purpose of Alpha was to program (train/condition the mind through torture) of the espionage agent to perform certain difficult tasks. This program also locks in photographic memory, improves physical strength up to 5 times, and visual acuity is radically improved to 40 times normal limits, along with a host of other super-human traits. Alpha programming is accomplished through deliberately subdividing the victim's personality, which in essence causes a left brain right brain division allowing for a programmed union of L and R through neuron pathway stimulations and you've got . a person who can now utilize both sides of his/her brain for any simple task.

      2. BETA -This is a combination of Alpha ; "logic" programming and Beta primordial (primitive mind) sex programming. This programming eliminates learned moral convictions and stimulates the primitive sexual instincts devoid of inhibitions. This training Program (usually for women) is for developing the "ultimate prostitute"...a sex machine. This is the most used (by the abusers knowledgeable of the Project Monarch) program. Children of knowledgeable persons are being preconditioned through incest and "sold" into the conspiracy for additional Beta conditioning to eventually satisfy the bizarre perversions of politicians, bankers, drug lords, or anyone deemed valuable to the conspiracy.

      3. DELTA - This program was originally designed to train special agents and espionage agents' minds for becoming fearless terrorists devoid of fear and basic self preservation instincts capable of incredible feats of physical endurance and murder. The new revised edition of Delta has pulled from the Delta program information on training the new breed of man - one who kills and, if caught, self-destructs. This program is now applied to some Beta prostitutes who double as drug mules...to protect the identity of their owners if they are caught, they die -of "natural causes."

      4. THETA -Psychic programming ...the "exotic one". But not to be confused with the paranormal phenomenon of fortune telling or future forecasting. Those are examples of a magician's craft - while Theta psychic programming was and is the exploration of an unpredictable fact of human science. The initial results of Theta programmed subjects were inconsistent that the Theta project was virtually abandoned before its research completion date. Duke University, North Carolina, among other prominent "institutions", devoted many years to this project with what equated to poor results. It seems that the region of the brain able of transmitting and/or receiving "mental messages" has not yet evolved to a level for dependable communication...with any predictable, reliable consistency. The Soviets, however, invested billions of dollars into their version of psychic research and claimed/proved remarkable successes. With the advances in directed energy research... Theta "psychic driving" is obsolete.

But the Theta program "head" was not dead yet. Theta couldn't die because of the Soviet's reported successes...it evolved into bio-medical human telemetry and directed target energy involving lasers and/or electromagnetics...the results of which were referred to as "electronic possession". The ultimate challenge for the 21st century exorcist... providing he worked a day job-as a skilled CIA supported Neurosurgeon.

A few years ago, this programming technique involved the surgical implantation of sodium/lithium powered high frequency receiver/ transducers coupled to a multi-range discharge capacitor that when signaled by remote control would electronically stimulate designated parts of the brain to signal the victim to respond according to his/her program. These experiments were only partially successful with a high mortality and paralysis rate. However, the technical mind control equipment evolution would advance to levels well beyond the grasp of any reader. Now it seems that "implants" will eventually become as common in numbers as are the victims of trauma based psychological mind control...but non implanted ,non programmed victims will hold the largest majority...the 1990's version of mind control requires neither implant or program...just computer driven directed energy using microwave...anybody can become a target.

note: Mr. Phillips' article, although detail-rich, is incomplete.

NOTHING that the NWO do is ACTUALLY on the level of omnipotence.

That suggestion is probably the most insidious of their deceptions. i am the sword in the darkness; i am the Watcher on the Wall.

for certain reasons right now i am contemplating:

sun in aquarius, neptune in scorpio.

this must apply to a LOT of people! let us see what a nominal internet search teaches us about this...

my general view is that it is immature and superficial to teach "squares are bad and trines are good."

such prejudices come from the Dark Ages, and in part from the banned pseudoscience status of the art forced upon us by hypocritical inquisitors from Nero to Hitler...

squares are character builders, right up to that famous Cross that wasn't enough to completely stop a famous, if rebellious-seeming hebrew philosopher and healer of the early Piscean era...

and trines, as Linda Goodman and life have taught me, CAN make one lazy. too easy...why bother?

as it is in many people's charts there are balances of trines and squares, enough to make life interesting.

i'm thinking lately about the generation termed X -- where are they in astrology? when were they termed "generation x" -- and how did they get their reputation for apathy and indifference?

was there some "greatest generation" that BRANDED those kids with that title -- some generation that wasn't REALLY the "Greatest" -- but TOLD ITSELF that it was?

      i like asking wikipedia questions!

      Origin

The term Generation X was coined by the Magnum photographer Robert Capa in the early 1950s. He would use it later as a title for a photo-essay about young men and women growing up immediately after the Second World War. The project first appeared in "Picture Post" (UK) and "Holiday" (US) in 1953. Describing his intention, Capa said 'We named this unknown generation, The Generation X, and even in our first enthusiasm we realised that we had something far bigger than our talents and pockets could cope with'. Author John Ulrich explains that, "Since then, "Generation X" has always signified a group of young people, seemingly without identity, who face an uncertain, ill-defined (and perhaps hostile) future. Subsequent appearances of the term in the mid-1960s and mid-1970s narrowed the referent for "Generation X" from Capa's global generation to specific sets of primarily white, male, working class British youth sub-cultures, from the spiffy mods and their rivals the rockers, to the more overtly negationist punk subculture."

The term was used in a 1964 study of British youth by Jane Deverson. Deverson was asked by Woman's Own magazine to interview teenagers of the time. The study revealed a generation of teenagers who "sleep together before they are married, were not taught to believe in God as 'much', dislike the Queen, and don't respect parents." Because of these controversial findings, the piece was deemed unsuitable for the magazine. Deverson, in an attempt to save her research, worked with Hollywood correspondent Charles Hamblett to create a book about the study. Hamblett decided to name it Generation X.

The term was popularized by Canadian author Douglas Coupland's 1991 novel, Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture, concerning young adults during the late 1980s and their lifestyles. While Coupland's book helped to popularize the phrase "Generation X," in a 1989 magazine article he erroneously attributed the term to English musician Billy Idol. In fact, Idol had been a member of the punk band Generation X from 1976–1981, which was named after Deverson and Hamblett's 1965 sociology book—a copy of which was owned by Idol's mother.

In the US Generation X was originally referred to as the "baby bust" generation because of the drop in the birth rate following the baby boom.

      Date range

The exact date range that constitutes Generation X is the subject of diverging opinions. Part of the variance comes from slightly differing definitions of what exactly Generation X is. Geography can also influence date ranges. Another problem stems from the difficulty in exactly defining a generation by birth year, as Fran Kick explains, "please understand that there are no hard and fast lines that occur between December 31st of one year and January 1st of the next. More often than not, it's a shift that occurs over three to five years, maybe more depending on who you ask."[11] Most sources cite a start in the mid 1960s. Some cite an end date before the end of the 1970s. Others cite an end in the early 1980s; 1981 is a common end date, but some sources show slightly later end dates.[5]

      The "13th Generation"

In the 1991 book Generations, William Strauss and Neil Howe call this generation the "13th Generation" and define the birth years as 1961 to 1981. 1970, the approximate mid-point of the "13th Generation", had the lowest birth rate of this period.

According to the authors, Generation X is "the 13th generation" to be familiar with the flag of the United States (counting back to the peers of Benjamin Franklin). The label was also chosen because, according to their generational theory, it is considered a "Reactive" or "Nomad" generation, composed of those who were children during a spiritual awakening.

Older generations generally have negative perceptions of Reactive generations—whose members tend to be pragmatic and perceptive, savvy but amoral, more focused on money than on art -- and the use of 13 is also intended to associate this perception with the negative connotations of that number.

The authors highlight this negative perception by noting the popularity of "devil-child" movies, wherein children are portrayed as malevolent protagonists (e.g. Rosemary's Baby ), released soon after the generation's first members were born.

      In Australia and New Zealand

In Australia, there is debate over when Generation X ends and Generation Y begins. However, 1981 is a common "cut-off" date. Many sources, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, use a 1965-1981 birth range to define Generation X.[27][28][29][30][31]

Like its neighboring country, Australia, sources in New Zealand, including the country's labor statistics, locates Generation X between 1965 and 1981.[32][33][34]

so: i'll borrow some information from cafeastrology.com

      for starters...

      Sun square or opposition Neptune
Those people born under a challenging aspect between the Sun and Neptune often struggle with a desire to be something special or to experience something more than the ordinary. They are day-dreamers and idealists. It is easy for these people to trust others, even (and perhaps especially) people who might seem from the outside looking in as unsavory types. They are looking to identify with something beyond what is normally expected of people.

Most have in common a childhood that didn't help the natives direct or define their lives. Perhaps the early family life was lacking in supervision or clearly defined rules. A father figure may have been absent or distant and ineffective. Many people with these aspects have a glorified image of their fathers. Whether the image is very positive or very negative (or if it swings between these extremes), the image is not very clear or rational. Whatever the case may be, these people struggle with defining who they are. They might gravitate towards the "wrong people", or get in with the "wrong crowd" in an attempt to define who they are. They might be susceptible to being taken advantage of by others, especially by men or authority figures. They can be easily led astray by peculiar desires or self-destructive habits. In order to add a greater-than-ordinary dimension of experience to their lives that helps them to feel special and important, they might be attracted to Neptune-ruled behaviors, such as secret affairs, drugs, or other escapist behaviors. In some way, these people feel a strong urge to glamorize their role in the world. In extreme cases, the natives are completely deluded. However, in most cases, there is simply some confusion about the past (such as remembering childhood experiences in ways that are far removed from reality), and a tendency to daydream about being someone more "important" than they assume they are. They may struggle with early conditioning that made them feel tossed aside or neglected in some way, and certainly not directed and supported.

These people are very sensitive, especially with regards to any real or imagined blows to their ego. If the natal chart shows a strong sense of reality and a robust mind (Mercury and Saturn well-placed, for example), the negative interpretations of this aspect are less extreme. Still, the natives are likely to recognize at some point in their lives that they have a tendency to engage in escapist and self-destructive fantasies and/or habits. It is useful to be able to connect these behaviors with their probable source, which is likely to be a weakly-defined ego and identity in childhood.

a lot of people might wonder what the sources of the problems astrologers have had through history are.

legend has it once astronomers and astrologers were one before the Catholic Church -- in its urge to "own" the dates of historical fact around the Messiah of Nazareth -- started silencing astrologers because...who else kept notes and dates about spiritual events that had happened hundreds, even thousands of years before?

Thus Giordano Bruno was burnt at the stake. Thus Galileo got accomodations in the Tower of London. Thus Kepler, Newton and Copernicus were forced to disavow belief in astrology.

Those who pointed out that Earth was NOT at the center of the solar system were heavily PUNISHED by The Inquisition and other fascist-like aspects of the Roman church...

      leading to now...

      Warriors of the Rainbow

There was an old lady, from the "Cree" tribe, named "Eyes of Fire", who prophesied that one day, because of the white mans' or Yo-ne-gis' greed, there would come a time, when the fish would die in the streams, the birds would fall from the air, the waters would be blackened, and the trees would no longer be, mankind as we would know it would all but cease to exist.

There would come a time when the "keepers of the legend, stories, culture rituals, and myths, and all the Ancient Tribal Customs" would be needed to restore us to health. They would be mankinds key to survival, they were the "Warriors of the Rainbow". There would come a day of awakening when all the peoples of all the tribes would form a New World of Justice, Peace, Freedom and recognition of the Great Spirit.

The "Warriors of the Rainbow" would spread these messages and teach all peoples of the Earth or "Elohi". They would teach them how to live the "Way of the Great Spirit". They would tell them of how the world today has turned away from the Great Spirit and that is why our Earth is "Sick".

The "Warriors of the Rainbow" would show the peoples that this "Ancient Being" (the Great Spirit), is full of love and understanding, and teach them how to make the "Earth or Elohi" beautiful again. These Warriors would give the people principles or rules to follow to make their path right with the world. These principles would be those of the Ancient Tribes. The Warriors of the Rainbow would teach the people of the ancient practices of Unity, Love and Understanding. They would teach of Harmony among people in all four comers of the Earth.

Like the Ancient Tribes, they would teach the peoples how to pray to the Great Spirit with love that flows like the beautiful mountain stream, and flows along the path to the ocean of life. Once again, they would be able to feel joy in solitude and in councils. They would be free of petty jealousies and love all mankind as their brothers, regardless of color, race or religion. They would feel happiness enter their hearts, and become as one with the entire human race. Their hearts would be pure and radiate warmth, understanding and respect for all mankind, Nature, and the Great Spirit. They would once again fill their minds, hearts, souls, and deeds with the purest of thoughts. They would seek the beauty of the Master of Life - the Great Spirit! They would find strength and beauty in prayer and the solitudes of life.

Their children would once again be able to run free and enjoy the treasures of Nature and Mother Earth. Free from the fears of toxins and destruction, wrought by the Yo-ne-gi and his practices of greed. The rivers would again run clear, the forests be abundant and beautiful, the animals and birds would be replenished. The powers of the plants and animals would again be respected and conservation of all that is beautiful would become a way of life.

The poor, sick and needy would be cared for by their brothers and sisters of the Earth. These practices would again become a part of their daily lives.

The leaders of the people would be chosen in the old way - not by their political party, or who could speak the loudest, boast the most, or by name calling or mud slinging, but by those whose actions spoke the loudest. Those who demonstrated their love, wisdom, and courage and those who showed that they could and did work for the good of all, would be chosen as the leaders or Chiefs. They would be chosen by their "quality" and not the amount of money they had obtained. Like the thoughtful and devoted "Ancient Chiefs", they would understand the people with love, and see that their young were educated with the love and wisdom of their surroundings. They would show them that miracles can be accomplished to heal this world of its ills, and restore it to health and beauty.

The tasks of these "Warriors of the Rainbow" are many and great. There will be terrifying mountains of ignorance to conquer and they shall find prejudice and hatred. They must be dedicated, unwavering in their strength, and strong of heart. They will find willing hearts and minds that will follow them on this road of returning "Mother Earth" to beauty and plenty - once more.

The day will come, it is not far away. The day that we shall see how we owe our very existence to the people of all tribes that have maintained their culture and heritage. Those that have kept the rituals, stories, legends, and myths alive. It will be with this knowledge, the knowledge that they have preserved, that we shall once again return to "harmony" with Nature, Mother Earth, and mankind. It will be with this knowledge that we shall find our "Key to our Survival".

This is the story of the "Warriors of the Rainbow" and this is my reason for protecting the culture, heritage, and knowledge of my ancestors. I know that the day "Eyes of Fire" spoke of - will come! I want my children and grandchildren to be prepared to accept this task. The task of being one of the........"Warriors of the Rainbow".

Utility Workers Hired As Stasi Informants In Colorado, California, Arizona

Paul Joseph Watson / Prison Planet

       July 2, 2008

Hundreds of police, firefighters, paramedics and utility workers have been trained and recently dispatched as “Terrorism Liaison Officers” in Colorado, Arizona and California to watch for “suspicious activity” which is later fed into a secret government database.

According to a Denver Post report, “It’s a tactic intended to feed better data into terrorism early-warning systems and uncover intelligence that could help fight anti-U.S. forces. But the vague nature of the TLOs’ mission, and their focus on reporting both legal and illegal activity, has generated objections from privacy advocates and civil libertarians.

“Suspicious activity” is broadly defined in TLO training as behavior that could lead to terrorism: taking photos of no apparent aesthetic value, making measurements or notes, espousing extremist beliefs or conversing in code, according to a draft Department of Justice/Major Cities Chiefs Association document.”

“We don’t snoop into private citizens’ lives. We aren’t living in a communist state,” claims Lt. Tony Lopez, commander of Denver’s intelligence unit - but the program bears close parallels to the East German Stasi system, which at its height employed one informant for every seven citizens.

Democracy Now interviewed the Denver Post writer and an ACLU representative about the program.

      (Article continues below)

It is also reminiscent of the supposedly canned 2002 Operation TIPS program, which would have turned 4 per cent of Americans into informants under the jurisdiction of the Justice Department.

TIPS lived on in other guises, such as the Highway Watch program, a $19 billion dollar Homeland Security-run project which trains truckers to watch for suspicious activity on America’s highways.

More recently, ABC News reported that “The FBI is taking cues from the CIA to recruit thousands of covert informants in the United States as part of a sprawling effort…..to aid with criminal investigations.”

Since authorities now define mundane activities like buying baby formula, beer, wearing Levi jeans, carrying identifying documents like a drivers license and traveling with women or children or mentioning the U.S. constitution as the behavior of potential terrorists, the bounty for the American Stasi to turn in political dissidents is sure to be too tempting to resist.

Indeed, last month Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers and the New York Times heartily celebrated the fact that an increasing number of Americans are becoming informants and turning in their neighbors and family members to the authorities in return for cash rewards.

Citing gas prices, foreclosure rates and runaway food price inflation, The Times lauded the fact that citizens are reporting on each other, ensuring “a substantial increase in Crime Stopper-related arrests and recovered property, as callers turn in neighbors, grandchildren or former boyfriends in exchange for a little cash.”

As any budding dictator will tell you, the creation of an informant society where individuals self-regulate their behavior in fear of being turned in by a citizen spy is one of the key stepping stones to tyranny. To have the media celebrate the fact that people are reporting on their neighbors and grandchildren puts the icing on the cake.

information about the actual conflict situation in Brasília (Capital of Brazil)
The situation involves a violation environmental and indigenous rights

Indy Media-Alert about the conflict situation in Brasília - Brazil

The new expansion urban area called Northwest neighborhood in Brasilia (capital of Brazil) planned (for) upper class people, was in first of November of 2007, headline of the main newspaper in the capital, called Correio Braziliense. As a matter of fact, the corporative media never mentioned some relevant issues to the population.

The Upper Class is "Homeless," Corporate State-Owned Media Report

Accordingly to the news, the upper class is "homeless", they don't have houses to live in Brasilia, and this project will fulfill the lack of homes officially to 40 000 people, but this number increases to 100 000 people counting the commercial areas. It's planned in one of the last green area protected in the urban area, where you can see different animals, plants and also is an important place for the manantials of water in the city.

Nine years after Brasilia was built (1969), the Indians seeking for their rights went to the new capital, which in the past located different Indian (ethnicities)  expelled from the original territory by the construction of Brazil's new capital (Brasília was started in 1956 and completed in 1960).

They found out an area recently "birth", "a little child", and they occupied an ancestral land, inside a protected environmental area, a park called Burle Marx. It's where the local government and the private businesses want to construct the Nortwest Sector. The Fulni-ô, Kariri Xocó, Tuxá, ethnies from the northeast of Brazil live there for 37 years (Brasília has 47 years), and hey have received during this years other
ones like Guajajara, Pataxó, Guarani, Munduruku, even Quéchua and Mapuche
from Peru and Chile. Living there we have another important ethnic called
Korubo, from the frontier of Brazil and Peru, they haven´t had much
contact with white people, they are part of a category of "isolated
Indians"(not good term but it´s what is used by FUNAI –National Foundation
      of Indians).

The hostile atmosphere of Brasília is an obstacle for them. Brazil
advertise itself as multicultural but it´s not what happens in fact, it´s
only in speeches, for social control. The spiritual and ancestral
connection of the Indians with this land is not respect. They cultivate
medical herbs, plants, fruits, and an important part of their food,
besides that, they use elements of the Mother Land to make handcrafts,
body paintings, and to practice their rituals. In spite of living in an
urban area, they are not urban Indians. It seems a paradox, in fact they
don´t live in buildings, but in contact with nature, with animals and
plants in a green area, in an environmental protected area, the last one
in the city. The Fulni-ô ethnic speak Portuguese but they keep their
traditional language, called Yathsalé, an important point because most of
the Indians have lost their original languages during the imposed
      colonialism.

We have a huge problem envolving finantial interests (The Government which
is the private businesses at the same time), they want to destroy the
Pajés Sanctuary, the Indians are under threat. The Governor José Roberto
Arruda, he was involved in scandals in the Congress a few years ago, and
the Vice Governor Paulo Octávio (He is senator, vice governador,
busnisseman, owner of newsparers and magazines, TV host " The Citizen
Kane") want to destroy this history, using the state propaganda that the
Northwest Sector will be an ecological neighborhood, a model of modernity,
progress when it is a prove of intolerance, prejudice, the constant racist
capitalist model which victimize Indians, blacks and all those opposed to
      this mega projects

The corporative press sells it out. Brasília was constructed in a fundamental environmental, which is called "Cerrado", with the Amazon is one of the most devastated ecosystem by this kind of enterprising, the Northwest sector is not a green area but a gray one. Accordingly to the
governor José Roberto Arruda"There are few people that think we should not
construct the Nortwest Sector to keep the Indians living there. Of course,
      I'm not with this opinion".

This sector is destinated to the upper class, it is supposed to be the
most expensive area in Brazil in one of the most in the world, each meter
is going to cost 6 mil reais, and the apartments will get to 2 million
reais each. It will be 100 000 people, the triple of cars, Brasília is
estimated to achieve Los Angles in numbers of cars per person. It will
damage manantial of water, one important point the Amazon water births in
the Cerrado Lands, and Brazil recently indicated 32 states which are the
most devastating of forests, Brasília should be indicated as number 33
because destroying here is at the same time destroying important manantial
of water nationally. There is no reason to build it.

In Brasília the local administration wants to build a luxurious neighborhood, called Northwest, in a place where indigenous groups of different ethnicities, like Fulni-ô/Thapuwia, Tuxá, Cariri-Xocó, had live for more than 30 years. The place is also the last area of Cerrado in the city, a native vegetation from the central part of Brasil. It´s a environmental sanctuary of great importance for the regional rivers and at the same time is also a place where indigenous from diferent parts of the country can stay while travelling trough Brasilia.

The financial interests are huge and defended by those who were supposed to take care of a healty environmental and for cultural diversity, instead of being spokesman of the private interests that wants to destroy the Shamans Sanctuary, the indigenous and the environment. The governor José Roberto Arruda was involved in scandals in the Congress a few years ago and the vice governor Paulo Octávio, a senator, owner of the biggest land company, owner of a TV station and also owner of the Brasilia newspaper (Citizen Kaine), wants to destroy this history, using state propaganda that the Northwest Sector will be an ecological neighborhood, a model of modernity and progress when in fact it's a prove of the intolerance, prejudice and racism of the capitalist development that destroy the nature and victimizes native and black people, and all those who opposes this mega project.

According to the governor Arruda: "There some people who believe we should not built the Northeast Sector so the indigenous could live there. Of course that is not my opnion". This neighborhood is destinated to the upper class, it's expected to be the most expensive area in Brazil and one of the most in the world. Each meter is going to cost 6 thousand reais (around 2.500 dollars). The area will shelter around 100 thousand people, and 150 thousand cars, which will demage even more a city that sofers with the heat season. Also the water sources from the Parana Basin and the Amazonica Basin can be contaminated in the process. There is no reason to go ahead with this project, according with IBGE (Geography and Statistic Institute) there is more than 53 thousand dwelling that are not occupied in the city. The supposed demand of habitation of the upper class is in fact a demand of capital flow, that is proved by the strong real state especulation of coorporations and government in the federal capital of Brasil.

       a post - salvian utterance

      by Pastor Cat Maxwell

in a weird way ("weird" here meaning -- in a way other than the methods day to day society is used to projecting as "Normal") all were innocent.  that is what can be said first about the salvia "trip" recently.

being a veteran of LSD and magic mushrooms i can say that: salvia was sort of mild. i didn't want to throw myself off a building and once again i believe that youth who are disgusted and aimless will use whatever the first excuse they get to act out on subconscious anguish and repressed drives -- leaving almost conmpletely clueless parents to blame the compounds, entheogens or drugs that the said sad, sad people were using before "whatever" happened.

this is not a detail of the trip i had (mild, pleasurable, emotions were high, a little weird).  that is coming in a future writing.

recently the conversation has been the same: anarchy is NOT revolutions: revolutions always have leaders and are tightly rigidly organized.  anarchy is personal responsibility...
      on from there.

Riane Eisler THE GAIA TRADITION AND THE PARTNERSHIP FUTURE:

      AN ECOFEMINIST MANIFESTO

THE LEADING-EDGE social movements of our time-the peace, feminist, and ecology movements, and ecofeminism, which integrates all three-are in some respects very new. But they also draw from very ancient traditions only now being reclaimed due to what British archaeologist James Mellaart calls a veritable revolution in archaeology. These traditions go back thousands of years. Scientific archaeological methods are now making it possible to document the way people lived and thought in prehistoric times. One fascinating discovery about our past is that for millennia a span of time many times longer than the 5,000 years conventionally counted as history -prehistoric societies worshipped the Goddess of nature and spirituality, our great Mother, the giver of life and creator of all. But even more fascinating is that these ancient societies were structured very much like the more peaceful and just society we are now trying to construct. This is not to say that these were ideal societies or utopias. But, unlike our societies, they were not warlike. They were not societies where women were subordinate to men. And they did not see our Earth as an object for exploitation and domination. In short, they were societies that had what we today call an ecological consciousness: the awareness that the Earth must be treated with reverence and respect. And this reverence for the life-giving and life-sustained powers of the Earth was rooted in a social structure where women and "feminine" values such as caring, compassion, and nonviolence were not subordinate to men and the so-called masculine values of conquest and domination. Rather, the life-giving powers incarnated in women's bodies were given the highest social value. In the words of Greek archaeologist Nicolas Platon, who for 50 years excavated the civilization of Minoan Crete where this type of social organization survived until approximately 3,300 years ago, it was a social organization where "the whole of life was pervaded by an ardent faith in the goddess Nature, the source of all creation and harmony."

      THE GAIA TRADITION

Most accounts of Western civilization start with Sumer or with the Indo-European Greeks. These accounts generally describe anything prior to Judeo-Christian religion as "pagan." And they usually leave us with the impression that prior societies were both technologically and morally 11 primitive." But the new knowledge now accumulating from archaeology shows that this is a highly misleading view.

The Paleolithic period, about 25,000 years ago, is generally considered to mark the beginning of Western culture. It is thus the logical place to begin the re-examination of our past. And it is also a good place to begin to reassess our present-and potential future-from a new perspective. Under the conventional view of Paleolithic art as the story of "man the hunter and warrior," the hundreds of highly stylized carvings of large-hipped, often pregnant women found in Paleolithic caves were dubbed "Venus figurines"-objects in some ancient, and presumably obscene, "fertility cult." They were often viewed as obese, distorted erotic symbols; in other words, as prehistoric counterparts of Playboy centerfolds.

But if we really look at these strangely stylized oval figures, it becomes evident that they are representations of the life-giving powers of the world. As UCLA archaeologist Marija Gimbutas and other archaeologists now point out, they are precursors of the Great Goddess still revered in historic times as Isis in Egypt, Ishtar in Canaan, Demeter in Greece, and later, as the Magna Mater of Rome and the Catholic Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.

Similarly, earlier scholars kept finding in Paleolithic drawings and stone and bone engravings what they interpreted as barbed weapons. But then they could not figure out why in these pictures the arrowheads

THE GAIA TRADITION AND THE PARTNERSHIP FUTURE / 25

or barbs were always going the wrong way. Or why these "wrongway weapons" regularly seemed to miss their mark. Only when these pictures were re-examined by an outsider to the archaeological establishment (someone not conditioned to see them as "failed hunting magic") did it become clear that these were not pictures of weapons. They were images of vegetation: trees and plants with their branches going exactly the right way.

This same view of human nature-or "man's nature"-as a self-centered, greedy, brutal, "born killer" has long shaped what we have been taught about the next phase of human culture: the Neolithic or agrarian age (approximately 8000-1500 B.C.). The conventional view, still perpetuated by most college survey courses, is that the most important human invention -the development of the technology to domesticate plants -was also the beginning of male dominance, warfare, and slavery. That is, with "man's" invention of agriculture -and thus the possibility of sustaining civilization through a regular and even surplus food supply-came not only male dominance but also warfare and a generally hierarchic social structure.

But once again, the evidence does not bear out the conventional view of civilization as the story of "man's" ever more efficient domination over both nature and other human beings. To begin with, anthropologists today generally believe that the domestication of plants was probably invented by women. Indeed., one of the most fascinating aspects of the current reclamation of our lost heritage is the enormous contribution women have made to civilization. If we look closely at the new data we now have about the first agrarian or Neolithic societies, we actually see that all the basic technologies on which civilization is based were developed in societies that were not male dominated and warlike.

As James Mellaart writes, we now know that there was not one cradle of civilization in Sumer about 3,500 years ago.2 Rather, there were many cradles of civilization, all of them thousands of years older. And thanks to far more scientific and extensive archaeological excavations, we also know that in these highly creative societies women held important social positions as priestesses, craftspeople, and elders of matrilineal clans. Contrary to what we have been taught of the Neolithic or first agrarian civilizations as male dominated and highly violent, these were generally peaceful societies in which both women and men lived in harmony with one another and nature. Moreover, in all these peaceful cradles of civilization, to borrow Merlin Stone's arresting phrase from the book of the same title, "God was a woman" (New York: Dial Press, 1976).

There is today much talk about the Gaia hypothesis (so called because Gaia is the Greek name for the Earth). This is a new scientific theory proposed by biologists Lynn Margulis and James Lovelock that our planet is a living system designed to maintain and to nurture life. But what is most striking about the Gaia hypothesis is that in essence it is a scientific update of the belief system of Goddess-worshipping prehistoric societies. In these societies the world was viewed as the great Mother, a living entity who in both her temporal and spiritual manifestations creates and nurtures all forms of life.

This consciousness of the essential unity of all life has in modern times been preserved in a number of tribal cultures that revere the Earth as our Mother. It is revealing that these cultures have often been described as "primitive" by anthropologists. Equally revealing is that frequently in these cultures women traditionally hold key public positions, as shamans or wise women and often as heads of matrilineal clans. This leads to an important point that once articulated may seem obvious. The way a society structures the most fundamental human relations -the relations between the female and male halves of humanity without which our species could not survive-has major implications for the totality of a social system. It clearly affects the individual roles and life choices of both women and men. Equally important, though until now rarely noted, is that it also profoundly affects all our values and social institutions-whether a society will be peaceful or warlike, generally egalitarian or authoritarian, and living in harmony with or bent on the conquest of our environment.

      MYTH AND REALITY

Previously unknown pre-patriarchal societies have been coming to light since World War II. Rich evidence has been yielded by the excavation of important sites such as Catal Huyuk in Turkey (the largest neolithic site ever excavated) and what Marija Gimbutas calls the civilizations of Old Europe in the Balkans and Greece (which even had a written language thousands of years before Sumer, which she is now deciphering). But perhaps most fascinating is that, in fact, we actually have known about these societies all along. That is, almost all societies have legends about an earlier, more harmonious time. For example, one of

THE GAIA TRADITION AND THE PARTNERSHIP FUTURE / 27

the most ancient Chinese legends comes to us from the Tao Te Ching, which tells of a time when the yin or feminine principle was not yet subservient to the male principle or yang, a time when the wisdom of the mother was still honored above all. Hesiod, the Greek poet (ca. 800 B.C.), also writes of an age when the Earth was inhabited by a golden race who "tilled their fields in peaceful ease" (in other words, the Neolithic) before a lesser race brought with them Ares, the Greek god of war.

Not so long ago people rejected the scientific finding that the Earth is round rather than flat even though, according to ancient records, Greek scholars had come to this conclusion centuries earlier. Similarly, the new archaeological findings of a more harmonious and peaceful past are today viewed by some people as impossible, even though they, too, are verified by ancient records.

In fact, we all know of this earlier time from no less a source than the best known story of Western civilization: the story of the Garden of Eden. This biblical story explicitly tells us there was an earlier time when woman and man (Adam and Eve) lived in harmony with one another and with nature. The Garden is probably a symbolic reference to the Neolithic period, since the invention of agriculture made possible the first gardens on Earth. Even the question of what ended this peaceful era is explicitly answered in the biblical story. This lost paradise was a time when society was not male dominated: as the Bible has it, it was a time before a male god decreed woman to be subservient to man.

We have been taught that our fall from paradise is an allegory of God's punishment of man and particularly woman for the sin of disobeying the command not to eat from the tree of knowledge. But what the archaeological evidence reveals is that this story (like the Babylonian myths from which it derives) is based on folk memories of a time before (as the Bible also tells us) brother turned against brother and man trod woman down under his heel.

If we look at both the archaeological and mythic record from this new perspective, we begin to understand many otherwise incomprehensible aspects of the Garden of Eden. Why, for example, would Eve take advice from a serpent? The answer is that the serpent was in ancient times a symbol of oracular prophecy (as in the Greek temple of Delphi, where a woman, the high priestess or Pythoness, was still in historical times inspired by a serpent, the Python, to prophesy the future). Moreover, because the serpent was for millennia associated with the worship of the Goddess (as a symbol of cyclic regeneration, since it sheds and regrows its skin), Eve's continued association with the serpent also represents a refusal to give up the old Goddess-centered religion. The punishment of Eve for her refusal to acknowledge Jehovah's monopoly of the tree of knowledge is a mythical device to justify male dominance and authoritarian rule. But the underlying story-with critical significance for our time-is that it records a major social shift. This shift, now being extensively verified by the archaeological evidence, is the dramatic change that occurred in our prehistory from an egalitarian and peaceful way of living to the violent imposition of male dominance.

      THE LOST CIVILIZATION

Even in the nineteenth century, when archaeology was still in its infancy, scholars found evidence of societies where women were not subordinate to men. But their interpretation of this evidence was that if these societies were not partriarchies, they must have been matriarchies. In other words, if men did not dominate women, then women must have dominated men. However, this conclusion is not borne out by the evidence. Rather, it is a function of what I have called a dominator society worldview. The real alternative to patriarchy is not matriarchy, which is only the other side of the dominator coin. The alternative, now revealed to be the original direction of our cultural evolution, is what I call a partnership society: a way of organizing human relations in which beginning with the most fundamental difference in our species the difference between female and male diversity is not equated with inferiority or superiority.

What we have until now been taught as history is only the history of dominator species-the record of the male dominant, authoritarian, and highly violent civilizations that began about 5,000 years ago. For example, the conventional view is that the beginning of European civilization is marked by the emergence in ancient Greece of the Indo-Europeans. But the new archaeological evidence demonstrates that the arrival of the Indo-Europeans actually marks the truncation of European civilization. That is, as Marija Gimbutas extensively documents, there was in Greece and the Balkans an earlier civilization, which she calls the civilization of Old Europe.3 The first Indo-European invasions (by pastoralists from the and steppes of the northeast) foreshadow the end of a matrifocal, matrilineal, peaceful agrarian era. Like fingerprints in the archaeological record, we see evidence of how wave after wave of barbarian invaders from the barren fringes of the globe leave in their wake destruction and what archaeologists call cultural impoverishment. And what characterizes these invaders is that they bring with them male dominance along with their angry gods of thunder and war.

The archaeological record shows a dramatic shift after these invasions. We see the disappearance of millennial traditions of art and pottery, a sharp decrease in the size of settlements, the appearance of 11 suttee" chieftain tombs (so called because with the male skeleton are sacrificed women, children, and animals to serve him even after death). Warfare now becomes endemic, along with "strongman" rule, since these invaders, as Gimbutas writes, "worshipped the power of the lethal blade."

One of the most striking manifestations of this change is found in the art. Now begins something dramatically absent before: the idealization of male violence and male dominance in an art that glorifies killing (scenes of "heroic" battles) and rapes (as in Zeus's fabled rapes of both mortal women and goddesses). And equally striking is the transformation of myth. Here, too, "strongman" rule is idealized and even presented as divinely ordained, as the bards, scribes, and priests of the ruling men systematically distort and gradually expunge the myths and images of the civilization of Old Europe from their sacred and secular tales. But although these, too, become distorted, memories of an earlier and better time still linger in folk stories and legends.

In the nineteenth century, the archaeological excavations of Sophia and Heinrich Schliemann established that the Homeric story of the Greek sacking of Troy was historically based. Similarly, the probable historical basis for the legend of Atlantis is now being revealed by twentieth century archaeological excavations. The fabled civilization of Atlantis was said to have ended when large land masses sank into the sea. What geologists and archaeologists now reveal is that approximatelY 3,500 years ago massive earthquakes and tidal waves in the Mediterranean caused large land masses to sink into the sea. For example, as in the legend of Atlantis, most of the island of Thera, or Santorini, was swallowed by the sea.

These cataclysmic events seem to have marked the end of what scholars call Minoan civilization, a highly technologically developed Bronze Age civilization centered in the Mediterranean island of Crete. Minoan Crete had the first paved roads in Europe, and even indoor plumbing. In sharp contrast to other "high civilizations" of antiquity (such as Sumer and dynastic Egypt), Crete had a generally high standard of living, with houses built for both beauty and comfort. Its art, too, is very different from that of Sumer and Egypt: it is so natural, so free, so full of the celebration of life in all its forms, that sober scholars have described it as unique in the annals of civilization for its grace and exuberant joy.

But what really makes Minoan Crete unique is that it was neither a male-dominant nor warlike culture. Archaeologist Nicolas Platon, the former head of the Acropolis Museum and director of antiquities in Crete, notes that this was a "remarkable peaceful society." He also notes that here descent was still traced through the mother and that "the influence of women is visible in every sphere. 114 For example, the only Minoan fresco of tribute is not the conventional picture of an aggrandized king with a sword in his hand and kneeling figures at his feet characteristic of male-dominant ancient civilizations. It is rather the picture of a woman. And instead of sitting on an elevated throne, she is standing with her arms raised in a gesture of benediction as men approach with offerings of fruits, wine, and grains.

In other words, in this highly creative and peaceful society, masculinity was not equated with domination and conquest. Accordingly, women and the "soft" or "feminine" values of caring, compassion, and nonviolence did not have to be devalued. Power was seen as actualizing power -as the capacity to create and nurture life. It was power to, rather than power over: the power to illuminate and transform human consciousness (and with it reality) that is still in our time symbolized by the "feminine vessel," the chalice or Holy Grail.

      NATURE, CULTURE, TECHNOLOGY, AND SPIRITUALITY

We have been taught that in "Western tradition," religion is the spiritual realm and that spirituality is separate from, and superior to, nature. But for our Goddess-worshipping ancestors, spirituality and nature were one. In the religion of Western partnership societies, there was no need for the artificial distinction between spirituality and nature or for the exclusion of half of humanity from spiritual power.

In sharp contrast to "traditional" patriarchal religions (where only men can be priests, rabbis, bishops, lamas, Zen masters, and popes),

THE GAIA TRADITION AND THE PARTNERSHIP FUTURE / 31

we know from Minoan, Egyptian, Sumerian, and other ancient records that women were once priestesses. Indeed, the highest religious office appears to have been that of high priestess in service of the Goddess. And the Goddess herself was not only the source of all life and nature; she was also the font of spirituality, mercy, wisdom, and justice. For example, as the Sumerian Goddess Nanshe, she sought justice for the poor and shelter for the weak. The Egyptian Goddess Meat was also the goddess of justice. The Greek Goddess Demeter was known as the lawgiver, the bringer of civilization, dispensing mercy and justice. As the Celtic Goddess Cerridwen, she was the goddess of intelligence and knowledge. And it is Gaia, the primeval prophetess of the shrine of Delphi, who in Greek mythology is said to have given the golden apple tree (the tree of knowledge) to her daughter, the Goddess Hera. Moreover, the Greek Fates, the enforcers of laws, are female. And so also are the Greek Muses, who inspire all creative endeavor.

In fact, this association of woman with the highest spirituality with both wisdom and mercy -survived well into historical times. Even though women were by then already barred from positions of spiritual power, Sophia (the Greek word for wisdom) is still female. So also is the Hebrew word for wisdom, hochmah. And even though we have not been taught to think of her this way, the Catholic Virgin Mary (now the only mortal figure in the Christian holy family of divine Father and Son) still perpetuates the image of the Goddess as the Merciful Mother.

We also know from a number of contemporary tribal societies that the separation between nature and spirituality is not universal. Tribal peoples generally think of nature in spiritual terms. Nature spirits must be respected, indeed, revered. And we also know that in many of these tribal societies women as well as men can be shamans or spiritual healers and that descent in these tribes is frequently traced through the m er. In sum, both nature and woman can partake of spirituality in societies oriented to a partnership model. In such societies there is no need for a false dichotomy between a "masculine" spirituality and a "feminine" nature. Moreover, since in ancient partnership societies woman and the Goddess were identified with both nature and spirituality, neither woman nor nature were devalued and exploited.

It is often said that the answer to our mounting environmental crises is a "return to nature." According to this view, the roots of our ecological problems lie in the shift from a religious to a secular or scientific/technological worldview. We are told that with the Renaissance, and later the Enlightenment, "modern man" became alienated from both himself and nature.

But if we carefully examine both our past and present, we see that many peoples past and present living close to nature have all too often been blindly destructive of their environment. While many indigenous societies have a great reverence for nature, there are also both non-Western and Western peasant and nomadic cultures that have over-grazed and over-cultivated land, decimated forests, and, where population pressures have been severe, killed off animals needlessly and indifferently. And while there is much we can learn today from tribal cultures, it is important not to indiscriminately idealize all non-Western cultures and/or blame all our troubles on our secular-scientific age. For clearly such tribal practices as cannibalism, torture, and female genital mutilation (which continue into our time under the guise of ethnic or religious tradition) antedate modern times. And some indigenous and/or highly religious societies (whether in reaction to an extremely harsh environment or to conquest by a foreign culture) have been as barbarous as the most "civilized" Roman emperors or the most "spiritual" Christian inquisitors.

Another widely held notion is that technology is causing our global problems. But technology is integral to the human condition. Indeed, the story of human culture is to a large extent the story of human technology. It is the story not only of the fashioning of material tools but also of the fashioning of our most important and unique non-material tools: the mental tools of language and imagery, of human-made words, symbols, and pictures. Advanced technologies are the extension of human functions, of our hands' and brains' capacity to alter our environment, and ourselves. Indeed, technology is itself part of the evolutionary impulse, the striving for the expansion of our potential as human beings within both culture and nature.

Once we look at technology from the new perspective provided by the gender-holistic analysis of our past and present, it is clear that the problem is not now nor has it ever been simply that of technology. The same technological base can produce very different types of tools: tools to kill and oppress other humans or tools to free our hands and minds from dehumanizing drudgery. The problem is that in dominator societies, where "masculinity" is identified with conquest and domination, every new technological breakthrough is basically seen as a tool for more effective oppression and domination. That is, what led to the nineteenth century's exploitation of women, children, and men in sweat shops and mines and the twentieth century factories of dehumanizing assembly lines where workers became cogs in industrial machines was not the invention of machines. Rather, it was the use to which that mechanization was put in a dominator system. Similarly, the use of modern technologies to devise ever more effective and costly weapons is not a requirement of modern technology. It is, however, a requirement of dominator systems, where throughout recorded history the highest priority has been given to technologies fashioned not to sustain and enhance life, but technologies to dominate and destroy.

In sum, the basic issue is not one of technology versus spirituality or nature versus culture. The fundamental issue is how we define nature, culture, technology, and spirituality -which in turn hinges on whether we orient to a dominator or a partnership model of society.

It is not science and technology, but the numbing of our innate human sensibilities that makes it possible for men to dominate, oppress, exploit, and kill. What passes for "scientific objectivity" in a dominator society is the substitution of detached measuring for an inquiry designed to enhance and advance human evolution. Even beyond this, what often passes for "higher" spirituality in a dominator society is equally stunted and distorted. For what this system requires is that spirituality be equated with a detachment that often condones and encourages indifference to avoidable human suffering -as in most Eastern religions. Or it leads to the Western dualism that justifies the domination of culture over nature, of man over woman, of technology over life, and of high priests and other so-called spiritual leaders over "common" women and men.

      RECLAIMING OUR PARTNERSHIP TRADITIONS

In ancient times the world itself was one. The beating of drums was the heartbeat of the Earth-in all its mystery, enchantment, wonder, and terror. Our feet danced in sacred groves, honoring the spirits of nature. What was later broken asunder into prayer and music, ritual and dance, play and work, was originally one.

For many thousands of years, millennia longer than the 5,000 years we count as recorded history, everything was done in a sacred manner. Planting and harvesting fields were rites of spring and autumn celebrated in a ritual way. Baking bread from grains, molding pots out of clay, weaving cloth out of fibers, carving tools out of metals -all these ways of technologically melding culture and nature were sacred ceremonies. There was then no splintering of culture and nature, spirituality, science, and technology. Both our intuition and our reason were applied to the building of civilization, to devising better ways for us to live and work cooperatively.

The rediscovery of these traditions signals a way out of our alienation from one another and from nature. In our time, when the nuclear bomb and advanced technology threaten all life on this planet, the reclamation of these traditions can be the basis for the restructuring of society: the completion of the modern transformation from a dominator to a partnership world.

Poised on the brink of eco-catastrophe, let us gain the courage to look at the world anew, to reverse custom, to transcend our limitations, to break free from the conventional constraints, the conventional views of what are knowledge and truth. Let us understand that we cannot graft peace and ecological balance on a dominator system; that a just and egalitarian society is impossible without the full and equal partnership of women and men.

Let us reaffirm our ancient covenant, our sacred bond with our Mother, the Goddess of nature and spirituality. Let us renounce the worship of angry gods wielding thunderbolts or swords. Let us once again honor the chalice, the ancient symbol of the power to create and enhance life-and let us understand that this power is not woman's alone but also man's.

For ourselves, and for the sake of our children and their children, let us use our human thrust for creation rather than destruction. Let us teach our sons and daughters that men's conquest of nature, of women, and of other men is not a heroic virtue; that we have the knowledge and the capacity to survive; that we need not blindly follow our bloodstained path to planetary death; that we can reawaken from our 5,000-year dominator nightmare and allow our evolution to resume its interrupted course.

While there is still time, let us fulfill our promise. Let us reclaim the trees of knowledge and of life. Let us regain our lost sense of wonder and reverence for the miracles of life and love, let us learn again to live in partnership so we may fulfill our responsibility to ourselves and to our Great Mother, this wondrous planet Earth.

                    Rainbow Warriors

      Cree  Prophecy

      Warriors of the Rainbow

Last century an old wise woman of the Cree Indian nation, named "Eyes of Fire", had a vision of the future. She prophesied that one day, because of the white mans' or Yo-ne-gis' greed, there would come a time, when the earth being ravaged and polluted, the forests being destroyed, the birds would fall from the air, the waters would be blackened, the fish
being poisoned in the streams, and the trees would no longer be, mankind as we would know it would all but cease to exist. There would come a time when the "keepers of the legend, stories, culture rituals, and myths, and all the Ancient Tribal Customs" would be needed to restore us to health, making the earth green again. They would be mankind's key to survival, they were the "Warriors of the Rainbow".

These Warriors would give the people principles or rules to follow to make their path light with the world. These principles would be those of the Ancient Tribes. The Warriors of the Rainbow would teach the people of the ancient practices of Unity, Love and Understanding. They would teach of Harmony among people in all four corners of the Earth.

Their hearts would be pure and radiate warmth, understanding and respect for all mankind, Nature and the Great Spirit.

They would once again fill their minds, hearts, souls, and deeds with the purest of thoughts. They would seek the beauty of the Master of Life - the Great Spirit! They would find strength and beauty in prayer and the solitude of life.

Those who demonstrated their love, wisdom and courage and those who showed that they could and did work for the good of all, would be chosen as the leaders or Chiefs.

Those that have kept the rituals, stories, legends and myths alive. It will be with this knowledge, the knowledge that they have preserved, that we shall once again return to "harmony" with Nature, Mother Earth and mankind. It will be with this knowledge that we shall find our "Key to our Survival".

      SIOUX PROPHESY
"There will come a time when the earth is sick and the animals and plants begin to die. Then the Indians will regain their spirit and gather people of all nations, colors and beliefs to join together in the fight to save the Earth:
      The Rainbow Warriors."

      - Ancient Native American prophecy -

      Rainbow Tribe

The sun rose on a magical new day...
Over the whole earth they came,
      The people of every colour,
      Sister, Brother, Father, Mother
      Traveling over many a land
      People of the Rainbow
      Children of the Way,
      with a fresh glow
      Finding their way
      Star within...
      More and more joined,
      a song for the soul...
      A new way to live,
      A new way to see,
      It happened this way...
      And a new song,
      It came from within
If you can find the Star,
      Within then you will find...
      What is... What was...
And what will be... you see,
      It happened this way...
      from within,
      The people of the Way
      The Rainbow Tribe...

About two weeks before X-Day, I was visited by the voice or spirit of
J.R. "Bob" Dobbs. The excitement was in the air, as this was the best
time of the year – the certainty, the knowledge that the Rupture was
imminent! I've been to a number of the X-Day Drills in the past, and
without exception they have all been fun. But despite that, I heard a
mysterious voice whispering in my ear. And the voice said:

"This X-Day is going to fucking ROCK."

I am not merely making this up now that X-Day has come and gone once
again without the Xists arriving. You can ask other SubGenii or check
the Secret X-Day Cabal mailing list that was used to plan the events.
The voice came to me, and it made the prophecy that this would truly
      be an X-Day to remember.

AND LO, THE PROPHECY HAS BEEN FULFILLED!

For, my fellow mutants, this X-Day was certainly one of the greatest
Drills of all! The gathered SubGenii were swept up by the Slack that
flowed across the fields of Brushwood, and they put forth the effort
to produce an X-Day that shattered many previous X-Day records and
expectations. It was one for the ages, and rumors shall be whispered
for years of the events that happened at X-Day XI…

(One of the) GREATEST POT LUCK FEAST(s) – EVAR!!
MOST SLACKFUL X-DAY FOR IVAN STANG – EVAR!!
GREATEST VICTORY FOR PRIESTESS PISCES – EVAR!!
(Some of the) GREATEST WEATHER – EVAR!!

Yea, fellow mutants, it seemed as everything "Bob" touched this year
turned to gold, or at least hard cash. And the vast majority of the
Slack from X-Day XI was the result of the hard work, planning, and
luscious bosom of Priestess Pisces, who took over the general
management for X-Day after last year. Stang tried to run the entire
show last year, and it burned him up and left him naught but a wilted
husk. So, at the command of Connie Dobbs, Pisces stepped up to the
plate and took the role of Atlas, bearing the enormous burden and
keeping the show going at the crack of her whip. And it WORKED! Not
only did we actually STICK TO THE PRINTED SCHEDULE, Pisces came out of
it as virile, beautiful, and horny as ever! Reverend Two Beans could
barely keep up with her enormous energy…to say nothing for me, who had
volunteered for the task of being Pisces' Errand Boy And Jerk Of All
Trades. A lot of planning, effort, and running around (especially on
my part) made it happen…but it WORKED! And much Slack was had by all.

And Anonymous, the mysterious collective of /b/-tards,
anti-Scientology activists, and troublemakers SHOWED UP! We had put
out the call for them to come to X-Day for two main reasons: 1) To get
more cash for "Bob," and to infect /b/ with our own memes in
retaliation for the chan memes infecting our own weirdness. (Even
Reverend Eggplant was greeting everyone with "Oh hai!") After the
SubGenius turned out for Anonymous' street protests in 2008, Anonymous
came to X-Day and met the Church of the SubGenius on its own terms.
And what was the outcome of this meeting of the mind-warpers? If
anyone truly came out on top, it was "Bob."

Some of the Anons kept to themselves, only identifying themselves with
a whisper, "Pssst – I'm Anonymous." Others were more blatant, coming
with their V masks and making no secret that they were Anonymous. Of
the various Anons to be there, the one most likely to become a
full-fledged Bobbie was the one from the New York City Anonymous, who
was completely seduced by "Bob," chewed up and spit out, and finally
dubbed "RevAnon." He will no doubt be spreading the word of "Bob"
amongst the other Anons, and I would not be surprised if several
Dobbsheads show up when Anonymous has its "Over 9000 Man March" in
      Washington, DC later this month.

And as for the rest of the SubGenii: we saw many new faces there this
year, including several who actually got off their asses and DID
things. This all added up to a glorious triumph for all…except
perhaps for the ones who annoyed a lot of the regulars by insisting on
being the center of attention and doing whatever the hell they wanted,
no matter what. But this year's X-Day was a high-water mark that may
not be equaled…until NEXT year, when we get to do it all over again.

      And the details?

For starters, the weather itself was at the beck and call of "Bob."
It rained incessantly, constantly for a full four days before the
SubGenii began arriving…until Tuesday, when the rain stopped and the
mutants appeared as if from out of nowhere. For the entire time
between Tuesday (the day before) and Monday (the day after, there was
only one single period of rain. "Bob" made sure to schedule the
traditional torrential downpour for Thursday morning, when the
SubGenii gathered at the main stage to B.S. and swap media. Other
than that, there was NO RAIN! The other days were sunny and hot, the
nights were clear and cool, and the perfect weather continued even
after we finally left on Sunday.

Many familiar faces appeared, all of whom were welcome – Eggplant,
Eggplant Jr., (a.k.a. Rev. Brainleak), Joy D'Veeve and Nigel, Popess
Pantiara and Tangent, Bucky, Leonard the Committed…and Pisces and Two
Beans, Dr. K'Taden Legume, Susie the Floozie, Nickie Deathchick and
Bob Wild, the noble Dr. Howland Owll, Reverend Stang and Princess Wei,
and the Amino Acids. And many, many more mutants – some of whom are
alt.slack regulars, others of whom were there for the first time and
had not found their SubGenius names yet. But nameless or not, they
had parties! Joy D'Veeve outdid herself, Eggplant kept everyone plied
with coffee, and the liquids (alcohol) and herbs (habafropzipulops)
      flowed nonstop.

A new generation of SubGenii is beginning to appear among the
old-timers, as we saw with the lovely faces of Reverend Little Lies
and the Volkerdings' demonic spawn. Even Dr. Legume's long-lost
daughter, Rev. Anna, was there at X-Day for the first time. She had
the advantage of being under the guard of the most fearsome SubGenius
alive; but despite this she STILL had a great time, and I do hope she
returns to Brushwood many times in the future.

And once again we were graced with the presence of the noble Dr.
Howll, who was a gentleman as always. It is always an honor being at
Brushwood with this man, and especially sharing the stage with him for
managing the Bulldada Auction. Whether selling a piece of utter crap
at the auction, or performing with Stang for one of several live Hours
of Slack, or exercising his considerable artistic talent, this is a
man whose calm demeanor contrasts the wild antics of Stang and Legume,
and provides an anchor in the sea of chaos that is X-Day. More
importantly, he knows how to milk humor from anything…and this is why
the Bulldada Auction was such a great success.

Ahhh, yes – the Auction! Set in three parts over three days, the
Bulldada Auction once again plumbed the depths of Pink stupidity and
provided a treasure trove of multimedia of all sorts to be auctioned
off…with bids going for as little as $1 for other, and at least two
items going for $50! The infamous "Evidence Bible" by whackjob Kirk
Cameron and his "Way of the Master" ministries went for a paltry $3 (a
bargain!), while Anonymous engaged in a bidding war over Andrew
Morton's unauthorized biography of Tom Cruise. And then there was Dr.
Dark's contribution of scanned images from disgusting underground
comic books, which turned out to be one of the $50 bids! From the
"Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality" to "Leanna Quigley's
Horror Workout" (a rare VHS tape!) to the Loompanics catalog, to early
vinyl albums by Lonesome Cowboy Dave – who was ALSO there on stage! –
this was an Auction that seized the audience and caused the laughs
(and dollars) to flow like water. Praise Dr. Howll for his management
      of the Auction!

Yes, this is truly a might Church to be in, to have friends like Dr.
Howll. And another good friend, the legendary D.J. Shaver, got some
true Slack at X-Day by giving us the finest D.J. Shaver Dog And Pony
Show of all! Best of all, he FINALLY had an AUDIENCE for his show!
Due to unfortunate circumstances, Shaver's shows at X-Day were
performed on stage in front of small audiences of maybe fifteen people
at the most…but not THIS time. He had a real audience, and he kept
them in stitches throughout his entire performance as he subjected
them to some of the strangest music of all time…AND, some of the
greatest porn! Where else but X-Day could you see a live sex show on
stage as three Sex Goddesses licked, tasted, and sucked on…IT?!?

Fat Free, the bulldada musicians from the 2007 Baltimore Devival,
lived up to their promise and came to X-Day to perform. Their own
declaration about their music was simple: "We suck!" Would that many
other bands sucked in the manner that Fat Free sucked at Brushwood!
Not ONLY did they put on a rockin' show (complete with an AC/DC cover
entitled, "For Those Who Wait For `Bob,' We Salute You"), not ONLY did
they complete their set in time, not ONLY did they participate in the
events, but they ALSO became fast friends with the Aminos and helped
run the Sacred Swag Shack. They gave away tons of stickers, CD, and
other memorabilia, but many mutants gladly paid for their suckiness
anyways. My own words to them before they left were: "You guys suck.
And if you want to come back again next year and suck some more, I
doubt anyone will mind at all." Their response: "We'll make sure it's
even worse!" (Pisces later commented that she had never seen the guys
in Fat Free have as much fun playing on stage as they did at X-Day.
They truly enjoyed themselves, and before they left they were already
      planning to return next year.

But by far, the show was stolen by the Amino Acids, who gave us their
wildest and most energetic show EVER! Those who made the pilgrimage
to Brushwood were promised that they would see aliens, and they DID
INDEED see aliens…but before the show, we were blessed with the world
premiere of Part 1 of the AMINO ACIDS MOVIE! Soon to be in theaters
(or at least on DVD), a packed house was treated to the beginnings of
a mysterious tale involving children being possessed by aliens, clown
murders, and the terrorizing of innocents. And once again, somehow,
during the midst of the screening, the Amino Acids themselves
materialized out of thin air to take the stage and give the audience a
rock show they would NEVER FORGET!

And the alien presence of the Aminos was ONLY THE BEGINNING! For when
the show was over, the entire crowd of gathered SubGenii was summoned
to the Roundhouse for the annual Ikon Burning of "Bob"…except this
time, THINGS happened that had never been seen at the bonfire before!
"Bob" was indeed burned at that bonfire, but at the same time a
non-stop, unending rain of parachuting aliens descended upon that
bonfire during the time of the burning. The fire consumed most of
them, yet every so often it would take one of the mysterious creatures
and float it dozens of feet into the air, before finally letting the
extraterrestrial descend into the fire in a spark of flame. AND THEN
CAME THE UFO LAUNCHING! A giant flaming ball appeared in the midst of
the Roundhouse, and it slowly ascended for MILES into the midnight
sky, casting a luminescent glow upon Brushwood that outshone the Moon,
as the inexplicable alien vessel sailed off into the sky, becoming a
point of light with the stars themselves before disappearing forever.
I am convinced that by this time next year, there will be at least
five kook UFO videos on the market showing footage of this strange
      apparition.

But even the UFOs were not the only supernatural event to take place
at X-Day. By nightfall on Saturday night, the LIVING DEAD were coming
to life and swarming across the fields, devouring the living and
anything else in their sight. Not only was Tiki Banzai invaded by
zombies, but the corpse of the much-beloved-and-hated musician Chas
Smith (founder of Einstein's Secret Orchestra) was resurrected, and it
watched over the stage show as a warning to all. Then, in a surreal
moment, the long-sundered members of ESO appeared from out of nowhere
to gather on the fields of Brushwood, and launch Chas's body off into
the sky in a blaze of rocket fire that climaxed in huge explosions!
Chas' essence was spread across the gathered denizens of Brushwood and
the Church of the SubGenius, and this resulted in even stranger
incidents occurring later that weekend. (Even the Sacred Megaphone
itself was resurrected from the dead! After performing faithfully for
all these years, the Megaphone suddenly committed suicide and no
longer worked…until tech-meister Ouroboros Rex performed an arcane
ritual upon it that bestowed life upon the instrument once again.)

How strange and bizarre were the actions of the SubGenii at X-Day?
Ask those who saw the GOAT, and who did things to the GOAT that I'll
not repeat here. That poor goat was held captive at the stage, and
violated in every possible orifice in ways that would make stalwart
men vomit. Indeed, J.R. "Bob" Dobbs himself could not look upon the
depravities inflicted upon that GOAT while the bands were playing…for
"Bob" himself had been captured and imprisoned! Unable to escape from
the shackles and stocks constructed by Leonard the Committed, "Bob"
was flogged, flayed, sodomized, and mocked throughout the weekend.

Then there was the strangeness of Mike Bison (BITCH!). These two guys
played a multimedia set, complete with one of the strangest musical
instruments I have ever seen: a modified Atari 2600 game system set up
as a crude electronic synthesizer. Their music was so weird, they
caught the crowd off-guard, but people became more attuned to it when
they gave encore performances (again and again) at their campsite and
at the Brushwood Roundhouse for the next couple of days.

And then came Chick-n-Hed, a.k.a. ChickenHed. I understand these
people got kudos for their performance at the Final SubGenius Devival
in Seattle, but you never would have know it based on their behavior
at X-Day. They arrived at 1:30 in the morning on the night before the
Rupture, claimed the area of the stage as their own, and stayed there
partying nonstop for the entire night, the entire next morning, and
all the way into late Saturday afternoon before they finally
disappeared and went to recuperate. How they got all of the energy to
do this was beyond me, though some say there may have been a METHod to
their madness. ChickenHed were determined to do X-Day their way,
regardless of what others in the vicinity wanted. To be fair, they
were polite and they didn't break anything or hurt anyone during their
stay there. However, their insistence in doing it their own way,
complete with whining how we were actually part of the Conspiracy
because suggested they follow the rules, didn't win them many converts
in the end. (Their electronic techno-raver music actually sounds
pretty good, though their incessant "dope dope dope dope dope dope"
      samples drove people nuts.)

I mustn't forget to mention the pagan who finally got sick of our
noise at 6:00 AM on the morning of July 5th, barely one hour before
the Rupture. We had been playing loud music and partying all night at
the various campsites, as happens every year before the Rupture, when
the guy strolled over to the sound system, turned it off, and angrily
said, "It's six o'clock in the morning." Our response: "No shit, and
the world ends in an hour!" Well, he didn't appreciate this, so he
went over to the main stage and disturbed Pisces, who was catching a
few winks of much-deserved sleep before the Rupture. Pisces came over
to see what was going on, and when we explained the situation, her
response was simply: "Oh, okay, whatever." My condolences to the
pagan who got tired of it, but if he was a Brushwood regular he would
have realized that this happens EVERY July 5th. (At least we've
gotten used to their own all-night drum circles.)

      And the Rupture itself…

6:30 AM saw the sounds of an angry siren blasting through the
SubGenius camps, awakening them from their drunken reverie and
slumber. The turnout for the Rupture was the greatest it had ever
been since 1998! ChickenHed was there, playing their music and
basically trying to hog all the attention for themselves. But despite
that, 7:00 AM came and Pisces had wonderful homemade chocolate aliens
for all. The countdown came…and went…and there we were, once again,
standing in the field looking like assholes, disappointed once again.
Disappointed…that we'd come all the way out to Brushwood to PARTY our
asses off! "Bob," if you keep disappointing us every year with these
failed prophecies, then we're going to have to keep coming back to
Brushwood to party like it's the end of the world – every freakin'
      year. That's just SO BAD!

And that doesn't change the fact that there was indeed a prophecy
fulfilled this year. Some years, X-Day has ended with a sense of some
disappointment, as if this might be the last year because it just
isn't worth it. This year, that feeling wasn't there at all. It was,
instead, a sensation of pure SLACK…and the certainty that we will be
there next year at Brushwood. That is when we will FINALLY see the
prophecy of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs fulfilled, and the Xists WILL arrive at last!

And especial thanks and credit is due to the Herculean efforts of
Priestess Pisces, for managing the behind-the-scenes stuff that makes
X-Day happen. Want to know how we actually kept to the schedule?
Thank Pisces! Want to know how Stang wasn't delayed in his
appearances and there weren't overly long waiting times for the
events? Thank Pisces! Want to know how ChickenHed survived X-Day
without getting their asses kicked by pissed-off SubGenii?
Thank…well, okay, thank Two Beans for that one.

But Pisces managed it all by herself! (And with help from Angry Larry,
Ouroboros Rex, Two Beans, the Brushwood staff, and many willing
victi…err, volunteers.) If there's anyone we should bow down and kiss
a lovely ass for making X-Day so great, it's Pisces. Even Stang
acknowledged that he got a lot of Slack this X-Day, thanks to HER.

And finally...even though we state right on the X-Day Web site that we
want people to stay through Sunday and take the extra time to go home
on Monday, almost none of them did. And it was YOUR LOSS! Because
the ones who stayed on Sunday were treated to a surreal experience,
courtesy of Dr. Legume, that added yet another notch to the legend of
Tiki Banzai. How wild was this? Suffice to say, when it ended the
Brushwood staff were tearing open the trunks of cars looking for
bodies. Don't believe me? Ask the Brushwood staff themselves…
