Mission

DUMBO Parents Organization (DPO) aims to connect families living in DUMBO, Brooklyn, through social, charitable and community-building events, as well as by becoming an ongoing information resource. DPO’s future Website, www.dumboparents.org, is expected to launch in late 2007. 
 

History of DPO

Founders Kimberly Birmingham, Marisa Fariña and Becky Sternal launched DUMBO Parents Organization in January 2007 as a way to connect the growing number of parents and children living in DUMBO. DPO is a volunteer organization that currently has no membership dues. All parents living in DUMBO are considered members. Currently DPO’s mailing list consists of 100 families but that number will grow as the organization continues to engage the community in its efforts. A recent survey conducted by a local developer estimates roughly 240 kids are living in DUMBO (most under 5 years old) with many more to come as J Condo and Beacon Condominiums open in Spring 2007.
