Homebody/Kabul (pg. 120-127) MAHALA: "Duals?" MILTON: "Pairs of two things which are alike but also opposite." ... MAHALA: Intersection. Like Afghanistan. Every element included in this map exhibits the concept of the duality with respect to Afghanistan due to its existence as a cultural, geographic and historical intersection. The historical invasion pathways represent both segments of violence and links to ancestral heritage. The colored-in regions corresponding to the areas inhabited by Afghan ethnic groups serve to visually represent the internal divisions within the country and to highlight the cultural diversity of Afghanistan. The different languages spoken by the people inhabiting the regions described above (such as Pashto and Dari) characterize the lack of effective communication/transmission of information within the country and reinforce the idea of the internal divisions with Afghanistan. |
