In an effort to go as green as possible we are instituting as much of the following as possible: Recycling, natural fertilizers and pesticides and reducing landfill material.
We are going to supplement our water by using rain barrels this will reduce the impact on our local water resources. We currently have 1 rain barrel and want to increase this throughout the year. Rain barrels can be created by using large barrels, non toxic of course, and putting a faucet at the bottom. Ours had a previous life as a soap container from a car wash. Thus the rain barrel is both being reclaimed and helping to save water.
We are recycling/repurposing the little cardboard milk cartons from lunch as well. These make great seedling starters for our elementary classes. We will also be using manure as a natural fertilizer as well as our own composter.
The idea of the Garden is minimal impact - maximum outreach. |
