Update: August 30th,
Well the weeding has begun. I have 1 volunteer who is going to come in and weed for us. I have cabbage seedlings in containers and we will plant them when they get their 4 leaves. I have also attempted to sprout the broc. and collards from the seeds of last years crop. We are looking for lettuce seeds and any fall starter plants.
Remember you can earn hours towards your volunteer time by weeding or donating plants. More to come soon!!!!

Hello, and Welcome to the Dayspring Garden page. We are growing products to give to organizations in need of fresh vegetables. The idea for the garden came from a contest between Mr. Zizzo and myself. We were competing to see who could grow the most Tomatillos, we won't mention who won, but it wasn't Mr. Zizzo. We were discussing how people have lost touch with the soil and how we could turn a garden into a classroom and contribute to the community by donating to a soup kitchen. Our hope is to have a garden that is as green (environmentally) as possible and allows us to recycle. We are already composting and we plan on using rain barrels to help water the garden. We are encouraging the classes to help in any way they can. Our 2nd grade class is going to become our nursery, growing our seedlings. 1st grade has volunteered to make a worm farm and 6th grade has created experiments with vegetable plants and the extras can be planted. We are planning on recycling milk cartons from lunch to grow the seedlings in. We are also planning on using natural fertilizers and pest control management. If you would like to donate to the Garden click on link on left for a list of items needed. |
Stepping Stones have been installed and we will be looking for more at the Fall Festival, see you there. |
