Dr.Venkat Pulla: Strengths based Practitioner in HRD

CVS and Resumes do not speak to life skills that we all acquire over a much lived lifetime. I am narrating some of them with a view to share my learning in training with your own company Ambuja as well.

I am 57, with a history in academic teaching, University Deanship, Public Sector - Adviser positions in diverse areas such as Racing, Tourism, Sports, Communities, Child Safety, with plenty of research background in Quality, Applied Behaviours and standards setting. All in this western world.

I was 37, - one of the 16 that constituted India's Urbanization Commission that had offered direct research based consulting and reporting to Shri. Rajiv Gandhi, the Prime Minster in India. With a history in academic teaching, (Osmania University College of Social Work) Overseas Development Aid British Government Projects Consulting, Facilitator- Lecturer and Tutor of third World CEOs (Many of them of IAS rank in India) taking them on study tours and training ventures to third world and United Kingdom;  offering Courses at Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning for them in Organizational Development, Project Management and Urban poor social sector projects.

I was 34 when I trained the CEOs by taking them to Far East, Bali, Indonesia, Singapore, Bangkok, London, and Swansea in Wales. Also

Today I call myself a pacific activist. Peace activist. I love youth of all nations. I actually like youth of rather corrupt societies and nations who are struggling there with their personal human values framework, transparency, honesty and ideals to serve the country. I seek them and mentor them. I seek people in all walks of life to assist this process in all countries where it is possible to rebuild those countries with better foundations that allow people to have better valued life.

For this and other
reasons I have my small charity called Brisbane Institute of Strengths Based Practice. This is an NGO. Not like Indian NGOs with huge infrastructure and monies. This is a penniless NGO which works as a catalyst and its members follow my example. I give up my annual leave to go to different parts of the world to train young people.

I am better known for my in-depth frameworks in Strengths approaches, Appreciative Inquiry, mindfulness practice, and positive psychology. I am trained and still being trained by David Copperrider and Pascal Kaplan. David created this schema of Appreciative Inquiry.

Since 2006 People tell me that I have been collating and leading a strong movement around the world in strength based practices and strategies. It is their kindness. I just provided a platform or a point to rally on. I do have extra ordinary following and testimonials for my training work if one needs that. I guarantee my training and my approaches. Have you heard of any one else that does this?  One question that I ask is a 100 percent commitment from the line managers to support the trainees and to create that ambience for change to happen apart from this I ask always mindful and insightful attendance to learning at the training and after the training.

I work for the Public sector in managing their social services for clients with disabilities. But my private practice is impetusglobal.com I am witty, challenging, full of potential and possibility. I let my trainees from shop floor to CEOs  see that no problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. I insist on my trainees to lean to see the world anew.  On the Impetus Global Website there is a self introduction I do not wish to waste your time. I have cut and pasted it here.

Impetus Global is a training consulting fit out.

This is my journey of three decades that began at grassroots- working in human services management.

A well lived and accomplished life that has many narratives- drawn from personal and professional experience. The exposure to variety of situations and diverse work settings that has made me reflect over the years on work, work ethics, human values, and human behaviours particularly how quick we are to expose our meekness and our vulnerability?

From relating to pastoral workers to Presidents of different nations; senior bureaucrats to Ministers; political party workers to Union workers- it has all been many journeys, perhaps one theme- of reaching out to them and the world- through a solution focused approach A confluence of the Schools of Positive Psychology, Appreciative Inquiry, solution focussed therapies, mindfulness practice describe my evocative approach.

How would I describe my talents? I would call them unusual talents extraordinary wit, humility and willingness to learn from every page in the book of life.  For some that would suffice for others they may need more pages of my life. Where did I work for instance the last 30 years? What are my favourite training agendas?  Am I easy to follow and understand? In a round about way here is the answer.

A bunch of enthusiastic adorable kids ( the teachers find them difficult to teach)  learn to talk , become more competent to engage in some serious conversation, have a laugh and learn to have fun- when I am with them and train them. Would you call that resilience building or building their hopes?
Many Psychiatrists in urban practice find me challenging as I suggest better motivations, new agenda and sift and give them new frontiers that they can decidedly dabble in future. Managers from Companies such as Tata Chemicals, Mumbai found it interesting to look at my Strengths based HRD. Communities and Community Associations such as Mooloolah Community Association, in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, find it useful to try some of the communication strategies that I spoke about recently at their request.

I am happy to provide you my full length resume. I am hoping you will  consider to take the opportunity to invite me over as a co facilitator in your next training venture in your country or else where in the Asia Pacific or Mediterranean part of Europe The world is a big place and it offers and creates a great space for dreaming a better world and re-constructing better leaders and better human beings from within. All of us can assist in this process.

MY Charity an Social Responsibility Initiatives are through Brisbane Institute of Strengths Based Practice is founded by me

The Brisbane Institute of Strengths based Practice (Inc)  propagates, supports and encourages strengths based  human resource development and management consulting,  counselling, group and community training activities and projects in the Asia pacific region and elsewhere, through studies, visits, conferences and workshops and major training events. Its purpose is to promote individual and community development through the practice and promotion of various skills including:

·          Asset-based community development

·          Appreciative Inquiry

·          Strengths-based strategies

·          Strengths-focused therapies

Current and future initiatives of Brisbane Institute of Strengths based Practice include: Sri Lanka- Capacity development initiatives for School of Social Work; Strengths based practice for ethno conflict resolution; East- Timor Liste-‘assisting people to look within’; Australia- aboriginal and Torres Strait initiatives of ‘sharing the road of development’, and healing from centre initiatives; and Vietnam- ‘Sansara human values in development’ initiatives. It is important to know that these empowerment strategies and actions are initiated without a penny. It is in the nature of strengths based practice to rekindle and rejuvenate the spirit of self reliance in individuals, groups, communities, and nation states that will answer all questions at all times, as strengths based practices evolve and are not static.According to Venkat ‘Intentional skill identification and building a culture of sharing and positive volunteering guides the Brisbane Institute of Strengths based Practice’. He goes on to add, ‘True. Sometimes small monies are required in all change work in society. But it is in the nature of strengths based practice that drives and combines positively pervasive imagination and hard work’. This potent lead produces major and lasting outcomes to meet the ever growing needs of humanity, each day.
