Welcome to my online curriculum vitae! I am an assistant professor of Education at West Texas A&M University. I currently teach undergraduate and graduate level teacher preparation courses such as Educational Foundations, Educational Psychology, Classroom Management, and Multicultural Education. I completed my doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the Education, Communications, and Technology program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in May 2009.
I am also a former school principal and a certified teacher with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry Education and a masters in Education Administration. I have more than ten years of teaching experience and more than seven years of administrative experience in K-12 education in the United States. I also provide consultative educational services at the national level to various schools across the United States. As an assistant professor of education at West Texas A&M University, I have had the opportunity to develop and teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses through a variety of media including hybrid and online classes. I also co-chair the Master of Arts in Teaching program. I serve on the University’s Diversity Committee that hosts an annual conference on issues related to social justice. I am a co-advisor for the Bilingual Education Student Association and the Iota Theta Chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi International Society in Education. My research, mostly qualitative, focuses on teacher education and the social and cross-cultural implications of information/communications technology and the influence of culture on the production, distribution and use of information and its technologies. I am particularly interested in the role of epistemic games for pre-service teachers. I am also examining the role of critical thinking in pre-service teachers’ success on certification exams. I am in the process of completing a research study that explores the role of action research in teaching diverse populations with the goal of closing the academic achievement gap. My other research interests include ethnography of Islamic schools in the United States.
