Owyhee River Geoalbums

The Owyhee River in southeastern Oregon is a spectacular example of a fluvial system that has been repeatedly impacted by 'extrafluvial' events. In this case these include the occurrence of large landslides and earthflows; intermittent, voluminous incursions of basaltic lava; and at least one catastrophic flood related to pluvial lake overflow. I am currently involved in a collaborative NSF-funded project focusing on determining the influence that these events have on the long-term evolution of the river's longitudinal profile. My role is mainly to make a geologic map of the study area. I use these photos to aid in the office-based compilation of the linework.
