We will be doing various projects for the Armando Rosenberg Orphanage and School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Projects will include painting, repair, and teaching, and we will have extensive time to interact with staff and children at the orphanage. The orphanage began approximately 25 years and is managed by Catholic nuns. Much of the financial support comes through the Orchid Foundation, which is in New Jersey.
On the orphanage grounds, the nuns also run an elementary, middle school, and high school for the children. The high school students can specialize in a number of tracks, including tourism (to become tour guides), science, and commerce.
We recommend that students participating in the project become members of the Orchid Foundation. Annual membership is $50, and 99.7% of all donations to the foundation go directly to the orphanage. The orphanage and its supporting foundation was carefully selected because it is a reliable, stable organization that provides outstanding services for thousands of children in the Dominican Republic.
