Dr. Peter Cardon is a professor and director of international programs in the College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management at the University of South Carolina. He teaches business communication, spreadsheets and databases, and intercultural communication. He is in his fourth year at the university.
Dr. Cardon is passionate about learning about other cultures and developing working relationships with members of other nations. He has taught in China for three years (Taiwan in 1992-1993, Hong Kong in 1995, and Jilin in 2002-2003), managed an intensive English language institute for international students in the United States, and taken students on numerous international trips, including recent trips to Taiwan in 2007 and Mexico in 2005.
He has taken the roundabout path to academic degrees throughout his life, frequently taking semesters off to go travel. As an undergrad, he strapped a backpack on and travelled across Asia. To celebrate his masters degree, he went on a 5-month trip around the world. As a doctoral student, he took a year to teach in mainland China with his wife. He has worked and travelled in approximately forty countries.
One of his hopes for USC students is that they can engage in meaningful and memorable international ventures with as little expense as possible.
