Dr. Nixon Library has participated in the Texas Bluebonnet Award for the past twenty years..   Students in grades 3 - 5 are eligible to participate.  The Texas Library Association selects 20 books for children of various genres each year.  During the fall semester, teachers read titles from the selected list to their students.    In January, students vote for their favorite Bluebonnet book and the winning author receives the Bluebonnet Award in April.  To be eligible to vote, students must have heard or read at least 5 of the Bluebonnet books.

The goal of the Texas Bluebonnet program is:

to encourage Texas children to read more books,
explore a variety of current books,
    develop powers of discrimination,
    and identify their favorite books.

Dr. Nixon has a copy of all the current nominees for 2011 - 2012 school year.  Come on in and check one out.
