WHEN DO STUDENTS VISIT THE LIBRARY?
 
All students will visit the library for lessons on a rotating, flexible schedule determined by the classroom teacher in consultation with the librarian.  In addition, students in grades 1 - 5 will have an assigned book check out period each week. Kindergarten classes begin book check out periods in January.
 
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE LIBRARY LESSONS?
 
Students receive instruction in literary concepts, literature appreciation, and/or information literacy per the district curriculum.  Lessons are integrated into class projects and research and focus on utilizing and locating information especially through online resources.
 
HOW MANY BOOKS CAN MY CHILD CHECK OUT, AND WHAT IS THE CIRCULATION PERIOD?
 
  •   Fifth Grade - 3 items
  •   Fourth Grade - 3 items
  •   Third Grade - 3 items
  •   Second Grade - 2 items, increasing to 3  items in late September
  •   First Grade - 2 items
  •   Kindergarten - 1 item starting in January (book remains in the classroom)
  •   Pre-Kindergarten - 5 items when accompanied by a parent
  •   Parents - 5 items     Parents are especially encouraged to check out books for children in Pre-K and Kinder.  We also have a small selection of books for babies and toddlers. 
  • Students and parents may take additional items for special projects upon request.  Books and kits are checked out for a 4 week period and magazine and reference books are checked out for 1 week. 
 
 
 WHO STAFFS THE LIBRARY?
 
The librarian, Miss Atwood, is a certified PK - 6 teacher and holds a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science.  She has experience as a teacher and a high school, middle school, and elementary school librarian.  Mrs. Gillespie, our wonderful library paraprofessional is a certified paraprofessional in the state of Texas.

WHEN MAY PARENTS VISIT THE LIBRARY?
 
Library hours for parents are: 
 
          Monday - Friday
          7:45 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
          11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
          3:15 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
 
 
 
 
OTHER THAN SCHEDULED CLASS TIMES AND BOOK CHECK OUT PERIODS, ARE THERE ADDITIONAL TIMES THAT THE LIBRARY IS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS?
 
Yes, there are several opportunities for students to use the library.  Students may visit before school (7:45 - 8:00), during the lunch periods (11:00 - 12:45), and after school (3:15 - 3:45).  During the school day, students must have a pass from the teacher to come to the library.
 
 
 
HOW MUCH IS CHARGED FOR OVERDUE BOOKS?
 
There is no charge for overdue materials; however, fines for damaged or lost materials are charged to all patrons.
