![]() Dr. Nixon Elementary participates in Accelerated Reader Enterprise to promote reading for pleasure. It is an online software program to encourage students to read, set reading goals, and reach those goals. The purpose of AR is to increase reading comprehension. All students in grades 2-5 participate. First graders begin AR in the Spring Semester.
HOW DOES AR WORK?
Students select a book according to their reading level, read it carefully, then take a quiz to test their understanding and recall of the content of the book. Points are earned for answering questions correctly. Short, picture books may earn the reader .5 points, small chapter books 1 or 2 points, and thick chapter books (with very high reading levels) may be worth 20-30 points.
AR quizzes may be taken in the classroom or computer lab, not from home.
