Peer-to-Peer Collaborative Learning with E-book Devices over 3G-WiFi Ad-hoc Network (Collaboration with AUT, 2010)
This project enhance our experience of evaluating an e-book device based peer-to-peer collaborative learning system with a 3G-WiFi ad-hoc network configuration. Two evaluations were conducted followed by two focus group interviews. Results show that future design of e-book devices should consider the educational affordance of integrating web browser and Internet chat functionality to accelerate the potential adoption of e-book devices for collaborative e-learning or m-learning environments. |

Affective and Persuasive Mobile Learning Support System (collaboration with National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan, 2011)
One aspect that is specifically lacking in embracing SMS technology towards teaching and learning is the understanding of its value in developing affective learning on Maori students. Unlike cognitive learning which involves mental processes and knowledge manipulation to develop intellectual skill, affective learning deals with emotion attributes such as feeling, attitude, appreciation, motivation, encouragement, immediacy and enthusiasms. Affective learning is an important part of learning which is often being neglected. |

Monitoring youth depression risk in Web 2.0 (2009)
Social networking sites have in recent years become an increasingly popular avenue for young people to express and to share their thoughts, views, and emotions. When young people are emotionally distressed for instance, instead of the traditional channel of consulting friends, parents or specialists, social networking blogs may provide a channel to share and release their emotions and intentions. The objective of the research is to explore the use of text mining and data warehousing technologies to identify and monitor bloggers who are depressed and may be at risk of suicide, self harm or harming others. |

Textual factors in online product reviews: Towards a more influential approach to opinion mining: Regan Robinson (2009)
The internet has vastly increased the ease of communicating across great distances. Due to this improved ease of communication, the idea of the product review, whether in a forum context or on a website such as epinions.com has emerged as a significant source of information for potential consumers of goods and services (Dellarocas, 2006).However, what remains to be established is a coherent model explaining which factors of an online product review shift consumer perception around a product, and how these relate to consumer decision making around a given product. |

The Barriers And Drivers To Automatic Number Plate Recognition Adoption In New Zealand: Alex Foy (2009)
This research investigates the factors organisations in New Zealand consider in their decision making to either adopt or not adopt Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. Six New Zealand organisations were interviewed.Findingsshow that the main reason for adopting ANPR was the ability for the technology to achieve a specific organisational goal or solve a problem. The perceived costs of the technology and level of usage associated with using ANPR were also linked. The adoption of international organisations and the effect of social systems further explain the reluctance of organisations to adopt ANPR as a new technology. |
