Dress to Excess

a Multi-century Attire and Dance Happening Of Ubiquitous StylE

Saturday evening,

11 March 2006

from

 6-10 pm

We might do this again... but not when one of us is distracted by wedding plans.

Maybe next year!

The best dance tunes for the past 600 years will be played. The more corset-friendly dances will comprise the first half of the evening. Changing space will be available.

How do you get invited?  Write to one of the hostesses listed below. Ask one to put you on the evite list!

Proper plumage to make you presentable: pomade, parti-coloured pourpoint, pompadour, pomander, poncho, Puritan black, parasol, a panama hat. Possibly powder & puffs, pattens, plaid, pleats, panniers, pluderhosen and primping.

The Dress to Excess Dance

hostessed by MADHOUSE

Does the idea of a man in an Elizabethan suit leading an Argentine Tango amuse you? Would a woman in a flapper dress dancing The Bohemian National Polka belong at your kind of party?  Want to see an 18th century gentleman try the hustle?

Put on your outlandish finery and dance at Dress to Excess.

Things you could bring:

  • If possible, please bring an elegant snack or a refreshing drink for you and your fellow dancers.
  • Elegant snacks are easy to eat and not greasy, never staining the hands nor clouding the breath.
  • Refreshing drinks are light (water is always excellent!) and non-alcoholic.
  • Flyers for your favorite dance practice to place on the welcome table.
  • Grab your favorite dance partner, if not already in the Evite list. There are a number of couples for whom we had only one email.

Newcomers frequently inquire: What’s excess?  We dont know, but nothing succeeds like it!

Ladies, shake out your favorite perfect dress from your coronation, graduation, bridal party participation, civil war fixation, our ancestresses’ emancipation, award presentation or your New Years Eve celebration.

Gentlemen might sport zoot suits, morning coats, kilts, Incroyables, spatter-dashers, your suit of lights, an ice cream suit or perhaps military dress.
