NUIT BLANCHE 2006

Each year we wait for it to arrive, and each year it gets bigger, taking over the city, reaching further each time... This is the official Brussels « Nuit Blanche » or white – i.e. sleepless – night. For the price of a small bracelet, enjoy a whole range of activities, visits, shows AND 8 parties, one chill out zone and two “roaming”options.

As well as providing free transport on three networks and thematic tours and visits, the Nuit Blanche brings together 13 organisations used to creating special events in Brussels in 8 locations (see on this page our best picks) - some well-known, others more unusual. There is one entry fee for all of the parties… once you buy the special bracelet you can enjoy them all. The Pass will be sold for 8 euros at the 8 party locations (pre-sales also at the Extrazone shop at the Monnaie for 6 eur).

Bus Party everywhere! From 10 pm to 6 am, a fun, quirky bus with DJs will drop off travellers at the various party locations. Route: de Brouckere, rue du Damier, Botanique, rue Traversière, parc Royal, place Poelaert, place Stéphanie, Pte de Namur, Palais Royal, Sablon, place de la Chapelle, Gare Centrale, de Brouckere.

The big breakfast: A big breakfast with excellent coffee and delicious pastries and fresh juice will be served from 5 to 7 am in the classy St Hubert galleries. From 5 am to 7 am, the same will occur at the St Hubert galleries and the Atomium

Electro Nuit Blanche with MUSIC MACHINE

Johann is the man behind Music Machine. Johann is a DJ, producer, sound engineer and multi-instrumentalist, the local equivalent of Jack Dangers. His music is sequence based, but, as a confirmed instrumentalist, Johann spends a good deal of time on the drums, the bass and the guitar. He blends retro electronic sounds with Disco, Funk, Jungle and Lounge, and serves it with a fat slice of humour and the firm resolve to make you dance. Because of his compulsive hyper-productivity, Johann insists on the perishable virtues of his music, a style he coins as a "Concept Jetable", which translates as "Disposable Concept". Already familiar to Belgian nocturnal circles as DJ Kovak, No.9 or Mission 9, and for his Bic Music series, Johann has also co-written the single Hallo Menschen by Hallo Kosmo, on 62TV Records, and participated on Major Deluxe's Skyline Traffic Society, on Top5 Records.

FOR TOLERANCE: against racism, against extremism, against gratuitous violence.

Tom Barman, singer in the band dEUS, with the support of a number of musicians, artists, writers and celebrities, is organising four free concerts in Belgium against the intolerance of the far-right on 1 October. A week before the municipal elections this project known as 0110 – pronounced "zéro-un-dix"— which is supported by a number of musicians, artists, writers and celebrities — aims to mobilise Belgians across the nation against the far-right. The gatherings will take place in Antwerp, Gent, Brussels and Charleroi. The events will include live music plus a number of other activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting tolerance.

Landstrumm creates his classic stomach pumping bass, metallic and melodic clangs and odd funky percussive swing lines live and in full effect. This isn't some laptop-noodle performance. It's live electronics at it's very best.
