Dreamside Maroon @ IGC

Dreamside Maroon, along with Gear, have been selected as non-professional finalists in the 2010 Indie Game Challenge!!

Again, thanks to everyone who helped us, and all the other DigiPen entrants who pushed us so hard.

Dreamside Maroon, along with Igneous, have been selected as student finalists in the 2010 Independent Games Festival!!

Thanks to everyone who helped us, and especially to all the other DigiPen entrants who pushed us so hard.
It's a shame we couldn't all be there--every game was fantastic.

Game locking up at loading screen?

We're sorry about that.
But, I may have good news!

Much thanks to Themistocles for contacting us and verifying that this works!


Last night I updated my graphics card drivers, and it happened to me! The game was going into an infinite loop inside the OpenGL drivers of the latest (Catalyst 9.12) ATI Radeon drivers. Finally tracked it down to one particular call to glLinkShader(). No idea what is happening inside atioglxx.dll, but it least it is not entirely my fault.

So, still waiting on a updated build to get posted on DigiPen's site. However, you can skip the wait and fix it yourself!

Quick Hack 1

  • Find the directory where you installed Dreamside Maroon.
  • Locate the ...\Assets\Scripts\ folder, and open  "gfx_material_post.lua" in notepad or your favorite text editor.
  • Search for "pSSAO4", you will find a block of text that looks like:

    "GAMEINFO", "InvTanHalfFOV",
    "GAMEINFO", "ScreenWidth",
    "GAMEINFO", "ScreenHeight",
    "UNIFORM", "0 Color0",
    "UNIFORM", "1 Normal",

    "TEXTURE", "2 ../../Assets/Textures/randomVectors.bmp",
"SHADER", "../../Assets/Shaders/pSSAO4",

)
  • Delete that whole thing.
  • Run the game successfully!

Quick Hack 2 (the remix)

  • Get rid of your current graphics drivers and install Catalyst 9.5, these drivers were working for me before.

Note: This is all assuming you have an ATI Radeon Graphics card and are running newer drivers than Catalyst 9.5 and running into the game not responding after the load screen. Not sure which drivers introduced the problem, there might be more recent drivers that do work.

IGF and IGC

Having completed work on Dreamside Maroon, Terraced has submitted the final build to both the IGF and IGC competitions.
Don't believe us? Here's proof!

Unfortunately, the final build is currently unavailable for download.
We'll see that the situation is rectified immediately!

Dreamside Maroon at Pax!

DigiPen will have a booth set up near the Bring Your Own Computer area, I think. Games will be showing all day everyday with some prime-time love for Dreamside happening Friday and Saturday from 10am-2pm. More info coming...

Oops, For those of you with text problems

If you attended the DigiPen Industry Showcase this week and picked up a dvd with our game on it, that version has a bad shader. I mistyped ".st" as ".sg" when editing the text fragment shader. This compiles just fine on the nVidia 7 and 8 series cards we have for development on at school, but not in general. If you have a Radeon graphics card and are seeing white boxes instead of text, please replace the file "(install path)/DigiPen/DreamsideMaroon/Asses/Shaders/text.fs" with the attachment below. If you can not download the attachment, here is the shader text, which you can copy and paste into that file in any text editor.
